ar-15 platform. currently using troy folding f/r sights m4 style. i have an oppurtunity to sell them at a decent price and pick up different sights. i was gonna pick up troy f/r hk style sights. i was also gonna be using the setup with and aim point pro with an absolute co-witness mount. Also is there any benefits with going to fixed sights? i was looking at the troys or dd . would they interfere with sight picture? whats your opinion? fixed front folding rear/vice versa.any other sights your prefer? thanks :shaka:

Fixed sights are less likely to move and lose zero.

I used a lmt rear fixed sight and aimpoint pro with larue lt150 mount. I think that was the mount. It was the non cantilever mount for aimpoints.
Anyways when shooting with 1 eye only to get it sighted in, to me it interfered. Not a lot, I just used the large aperAture.
When shooting with both eyes open it didn't bother me. You still could see a blur but not enough to ruin any peripheral vision or block any image in front of me.
I had the standard a2 front sight as well. It was on my 6.8.

In the early days of floated rails for the AR/M4, I was still a fan of the fixed front sight post, however with the advent of better floated rail systems and a quality primary optic, I am good with rail mounted back up iron sights. I am guessing you have a rail, so even on a rail I am a proponent of running fixed irons, unless if I am running magnification. If you do run fixed irons I do strongly suggest a lower 1/3 co-witness as opposed to a true co-witness. A well practiced shooter will have zero issues with irons within the sight picture when running a non-magnified dot set up, but again lower 1/3 is IMO a better option here.

Right now I am using a Daniel Defense fixed front and a KAC rear. I had the DD fixed rear, but I wanted the versatility of the elevation and windage adjustability of the KAC. I did not have any issues or problems with either sight in co-witness with a Aimpoint PRO with lower 1/3.

My preference (and recommendation to those who ask) are a) fixed front with lower 1/3 cowitness optic or b) folding front and back with absolute cowitness optic.
My first AR was a DD M4V5 (12" free float rail) and I had Troy folding sights and EoTech 512 (absolute cowitness). That was a great setup. However, I've since sold that gun and optic and my current setups are:
1) FSP and ARMA folding rear with Aimpoint T-1 on lower 1/3 cowitness mount.
2) Monolithic rail with DD fixed front and rear sights with Aimpoint CompM4s on lower 1/3 cowitness mount.
On an AR other than for only competition, I prefer a fixed front sight. I'm about 50/50 on the rear sight. More about what I have available in the parts box that determines that.
I recently built a beater AR that has a FSP and LMT fixed rear sight. I put on an Aimpoint PRO with the stock mount. The stock mount puts the dot somewhere between absolute and lower 1/3 (at least I believe) and that puts the dot right on the ring of the rear sight. Yeah, I can still shoot with both eyes open and the dot will "be there", but I found that the lower dot at almost absolute cowitness to be annoying. I recently ordered a lower 1/3 cowitness mount for the PRO.
I've been wanting to try a low power variable (1-4x, 1-6x, etc) with an AR. I'd likely go with folding irons in that case with a QD mount for the optic.

With an aimpoint I would just use flip ups as they will be backup sights and likely rarely used.

I got rid of my EoTech 512, which was the only optic that was absolute co-witness that I had. Otherwise, I'd offer to let you see for yourself. Personally, I found fixed front with absolute co-witness to be distracting. I mean, I'm sure you can get used to it, but since I'm already used to lower 1/3 cowitness, I found it distracting. That's why I opted for folding sights on the gun that had the 512. That said, I know some folks that prefer absolute cowitness with at least fixed front.

Folding or fixed it's really personal preference. I think a fixed front is really not an issue, but a rear you might want if you are going to use a magnifier or want to throw on something like a scope of ACOG.
With regards to an absolute cowitness I'd suggest a lower 1/3 instead. With an absolute you're going to have your face a lot further down than you would with a lower 1/3 cowitness. I didn't think about it too much until I was fussing with a 1/3 and an absolute last month. I felt pretty uncomfortable with the absolute after running the 1/3 for a while.
