any one of us small people would be denied our right to even own a gun for doing such a thing and yet these idiots are allowed to walk the streets wearing badges telling us what we can't do.

Details do matter, but having said that, I don't know any details about the case.

The officer was pardoned by the governor though, which technically cleans his conviction like expunging your record right?

Then there is the topic of domestic violence, which in some ways has railroaded people. Cases are fraught with lies and false accusations making it difficult to ever find thermal truth. All sorts of dynamics involved that cloud what is presented as such a black and white issue. Domestic violence at its worst is horrible and needs to be addressed very aggressively but this ends up drawing in the most minor of offenses. The way the law is written probably most people are guilty of domestic violence.

So perhaps the question is what marks against someone's past are forgivable and what are not when it comes to public service?

The double standard is glaringly obvious. People that don't work for the police or aren't friends of the governor wouldn't be given such exemptions without a long and expensive legal battle. Not to mention that HPD would come to your house and take every they could get their hands on that's weapons related.

I do agree that the standard should be consistent across the board. Police shouldn't be getting expungements where everyone else can't. Pardons are on a different level though as they are a legal right granted to leaders and difficult to ensure they are consistent with the expungement system.

I Think that for the most part HPD is a fairly good department.  However it does appear to have more than its share of idiots and A-holes, unfortunately many of them seem to be the ones setting policy.

This island is so "hook a bra up" it's ridiculous.

The governor actually went on record saying that he pardoned him so he wouldn't lose his guns?  WTF?

He should also pardon those law abiding citizens who wet their beds in their younger years so they can get their guns. Also automatically grant victims of domestic violence the right to CCW and training paid for by state funds. We spend more money keeping criminals in jails and giving them 4th and 5th chances. Dont know where this states moral and ethical benchmark is but Im tired of reading about furlough inmates not coming back to jail after looking for jobs.

That is fu#$@d up that  he would get promoted with a domestic violence record. there were other candidates, probably with out a domestic violence record.what a bad descion.seems like you can get away with anything in hpd and still keep your job.domestic violence, improper storage of firearms(stolen from vehicles). discharging firearm by mistake.beating up girlfriend in a bar.etc..etc..Crap I picked the wrong profession.

Page B2  of Saturday's local paper:
Kealoha quoted " We've all made mistakes in our lives, but what's important is what we do afterwards"
The article goes on to say that the case file has been destroyed because of it's age. No further details available
I suppose a pardon does clear the slate, but...
Do you think that this may apply to us, too?
Just thoughts
Aloha

Now he has denied the promotion.  What a crock of crap. He should not be a police officer.

The article said Borges withdrew his name from the position.

But legally speaking he was pardoned for his crime so he is allowed to be a cop.

Exactly, he denied the promotion. Same thing.

Once again where the state went wrong. Cayetano pardoned a domestic abuse criminal.

Would you have been pardoned?

Look you can argue all you want. Your state's politics are messed up as well as your famed HPD.

By your incessant arguing it seems you agree with the way things are.

I am sorry, I misread your post, I though you had said he was denied.

Whether a domestic abuse criminal can be pardoned or have his record expunged is another topic worthy of its own discussion but I will refrain from derailing this thread.

Nah, i just dont give a shit.

I think from now on ill just sit back and read all the war stories from sunshine patriots about what they would do if the chinese invaded, and their excuses about why they cant do anything to  at least make an attempt to make things better.
