Title: Bill to require Insurance for firearms and periodic reregistration!
Post by: eyeeatingfish on February 16, 2016, 03:58:03 AM
This bill would require gun owners to have insurance that would cover incidents with the person's firearm, would require an administrative fee, and would require re-registration every 5 years.

Send your input against this bill. It has problems on multiple levels.

What other constitutional right can be required to have insurance?

The logistics of re-registering the entire collection of firearms every 5 years would cause a nightmare at HPD's firearms division. They would have to hire a few more officers just to do it, and I estimate it would take about 1 year to re register the 1 million or so firearms in this state.

Ok... Does that mean they won't take testimony? THe button still shows, and I posted on facebook in the comments section of a civil beat article mentioning this on how to give testimony.

I'm fairly certain you cannot submit testimony until a bill has a scheduled hearing. Unless they changed the rules recently.

Yeah we have to watch out and be quick about it. Maybe best to have your testimony written up already so you can submit on a short notice.

The mental illness / firearm confiscation bills were scheduled in a way that we only had less than 12 hours from the time they scheduled the hearing and when we had to get our testimonies submitted.

Yes, we have to wait until they post a hearing date and time, you can submit testimony then, but it must be at least 24 hours before the hearing or it won't be counted.

They obviously do it this way to discourage testimony, always in the middle of the week, during normal working hours, on the shortest notice possible.

I wonder if that might be a kink in a the system a lawyer could to sue and stop the bill from becoming law....
