Wow. There are some epic failures in that vid.......some really scary stuff. The barrel splitting on the hunting rifle was crazy.
-
anyone know if the female police officer really fired and hit that guy on the ground? WOW

Cringe after cringe after cringe.
That one where the cop shoots himself in the classroom never gets old.

scary stuff. as careful as I think I am, you really never know. In fact, at the range today, I got a live round stuck in the chamber and I was stuck for a moment. I held it pointed downrange for about a minute before I decided what to do. I couldn't rack the slide no matter how hard I tried. I finally ended up disassembling it. Kinda tricky doing that while keeping it pointed downrange and removing the barrel bushing without putting my finger in front of the barrel and not letting the bushing fly.
Actually, does anyone think I should have done things different?

The same happened at the pistol range today with a young couple. They were trying to shoot 9mm reloads out of a XD. The guy opted to look down the barrel to see how it was stuck before I intervened. The reloads were not properly crimped and that caused the jam. I'll try to do some video on how to unstuck a live round.
1. Keep pointed in safe direction
2. Attempt to place weapon on safe
3. Remove magazine
4. Keeping weapon in safe direction place thumb of strong hand on backstrap and remaining 4 fingers on top of slide in such a way that is you try to make a fist, it will retract the slide.
5. Wth the palm of your weak hand, strike the backstrap of the weapon while trying to retract the slide by make a fist with your strong hand.
This should work for most pistols with standard slides.

^^^^ Thanks for the tip. If it happens again I'll give that a try. Looked down the barrel? I was actually thinking long and hard if I should really be taking my son there. I've never seen anyone unsafe at the range but it only takes one idiot to change your life.

Basically, the goal is just to apply enough force to the slide to get it retracted while keeping the muzzle downrange, correct? There's no such thing as too much force on the slide in that situation, right?

I don't know of which incident you are referring to as I didn't watch the entire video, but................if this is the one where you have a bunch of officers subduing a suspect with the female officer on the outside ring of officers, then no, she (miraculously) did not shoot anyone.

yea, that's the one. I thought she may have hit the person on the ground!
