Someone from Hawaii Kai (Don Child?) sent a letter to the editor suggesting the removal of the Kokohead range because he could hear gunshots "several days of the week" "all day" and that it invoked his Vietnam War PTSD. He suggested that the range be moved to a military base so that we can be more closely tracked..... >:(

Make a suggestion that they can close Koko Head range if they build a world class public range elsewhere on this island.

Why the hell do you choose to live near what I think is the only public outdoor range on the island?
I'll go one step further. Why live in the USA at all?
How about Korea or Japan? Can pretty much guarantee you won't hear gunshots.....

Exactly. Reminds me of people that move in near a airport and then complain about the jet noise.
As far as the gunfire and PTSD, the Waikiki fireworks (and fireworks in general) screws with a lot of people with PTSD from the Iraq and Afghanistan war...let's ban Waikiki fireworks and the 4th of July too...WTF!!!

Is this said person aware that the general public can only utilize the range on the weekend? HPD and other agencies have access on the weekdays for training their officers and/or armed trainees/recruits. Moving it to a military base would not be "user friendly" for those that are not members of a "rod and gun club" OR have no military access privileges. Btw, military training takes precedence over civilian sport shooting.

I live in Mililani mauka not far from the top and hear gunfire from the training area at east range regularly. I hear machine guns, some grenades(?) and other large caliber going off all the time. I'm pretty used to the sound. In fact, I get kinda jealous and want to go & play too. To me, it's the sound of freedom.

Not quite right.
The rifle and conventional pistol range is open wed, thu, fri from 12 to 4pm.
Everything opens up on weekends

No live fire or grenades in East Range only blanks and maybe some artillery simulators.

Had a neighbor call the police about hearing gunfire...told him to cancel the call as it was East Range training

yup. meant simulators. when there is cloud cover up here, it gets pretty loud.
