Title: Learning to be a "Gun Guy"
Post by: thumbless on November 06, 2011, 09:01:54 AM
Hi, I am new to this forum and firearms and was wondering if anyone could recommend any websites or books to help me learn about ballistics and gun mechanics.  Kinda like a primer for the new guy.

Thank You

Hm, good question. It's nice to see someone being proactive!

Here's a good beginner link: http://www.savetheguns.com/firearms_101.htm (http://www.savetheguns.com/firearms_101.htm)

Also, some good gun news blogs are Snowflakes in Hell, Gun Nuts Media, Pistol-Training, and Sharp as a Marble.

Also, don't hesitate to ask any specific questions you might have.

Edit to Add: How could I forget Ammoland.com?!

I haven't read it myself, but Jeff Cooper's book "Ride Tall, Shoot Straight, Speak the Truth" comes highly recommended.  From what I understand, it's not just about guns, but more of a primer for manhood with a focus on guns.
