Title: Big Island gunsmiths
Post by: 1voyager1 on March 07, 2016, 05:17:40 PM
I tried the search function.
But, it doesn't seem to work.
So, my question:

I have an old late 40's H&R Model 165 Reising action semi-auto .22 rifle.
I have had it since 1952 or '53.

It is taking a beating from the humidity here.
It needs to be re-blued or parkerized and any other protection needed.
As long as I'm getting that done, It also needs a bit of work to smooth out the trigger action.

Can anyone recommend a local 'smith  capable of getting a good job done on it?

Have you checked with White Shark Arms in Hilo? They have armory services.  Maybe they can assist you.  http://whitesharkarms.com/

I had Kona Reloads in Kealakekua work on my Marlin 39 a few years ago.  My neglect had left a good sized spot of rust on the barrel and reciever.  They re-blued it, also removed a big scratch on the reciever from a screwdriver slip.  If I remember correctly, they charged about $175 and I couldn't be happier with their work.  My first gun looked like new again.
I now keep a heat stick and desiccant in the safe, and make a point to check and oil my arms regularly.
