Hahahahahahahaha!
Ignoramus is as ignoramus does.
"It is time to get rid of the Second Amendment."
Go right ahead Mr. Ortega. I hope you and all your friends and like-minded political allies spend all your money for the next umpteen years attempting to overturn the Second Amendment.
I won't even start on any of his fallacious arguments and cherry-picked history and quotes, but I will say that for a "journalist", he has no idea of how to diagram a sentence and grammatically understand it (re his claim that "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state" is a "dependent clause").

The example I always use is, if you are registered in the selected service system, you are in the referred militia. If you served as an member in any branch of the us armed forces you are in the referred militia.
As a former member of the United States Marine Corp I swore an oath to support and defend the constitution, that oath did not have an expiration date.
Funny, whenever these "imagine" "all we need is love" people are getting there ass kicked they wish guys like me will step in and save there asses. I swear twice I was watching a woman getting beat up by the boyfriends. I was just standing there like everyone else enjoying the show, and one time a female bystander demanded "do something your a man" I didn't of course. Did not know the female getting beaten and was of no relation to me.
If people refuse to protect the one life they have, then "Otis" them and leave them behind.

Any male between the ages of 17 and 45 is part of the national militia; that's federal law.
Any male and female between the ages of 17 and 45 is part of the Hawaii militia; that is state law.

don't even stoop down to entertaining the militia argument. the second amendment is very clear when it says the right of the people, not the right of the militia.

But its not so clear, which is why we have problems.
It should be amended to say:
"Being necessary for the security of the free state, the right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed."
See how much more clear that is.

I'll do you one even better - "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" :shaka:
I get some entertainment from reading the comments, always worth a review.

The problem is the comma is a punctuation error, If you look at the original wording of the 2A it read
The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; a well armed and well regulated militia being the best security of a free country but no person religiously scrupulous of bearing arms shall be compelled to render military service in person.
As you can see the most important part is first, You can see the comma is in fact a semicolon.
Now if you take the 2A as written in the constitution you will see that the semicolon is changed to a comma implying 1 sentence. When in fact that is not the case, The semicolon is meant to separate the 2 sentences but give them equal position.
Rules for Using Semicolons. A semicolon is most commonly used to link (in a single sentence) two independent clauses that are closely related in thought. When a semicolon is used to join two or more ideas (parts) in a sentence, those ideas are then given equal position or rank.

Clear or not, honestly, since the 1700s, we have had many examples in history why free citizens ought to be armed.
This video should be required viewing for all high school students. And their parents. HISTORY LESSON. FACTS. FACTS!!!

http://townhall.com/news/us/2016/03/10/chief-says-dead-intruder-may-be-escaped-murder-suspect-n2131342
McCloud fought with the husband and wife, stabbing the man in the shoulder, Vicksburg Police Chief Walter Armstrong said. The wife also had injuries, but not enough to go to the hospital. The toddler was not hurt.
At some point, one of the couple managed to get a gun they had at the home and McCloud was shot in the head, the chief said. He did specify exactly who got free and how they did so.

"The idea that we must be armed to protect our rights from our own government is the exact opposite of what the men who wrote the Constitution and the Bill of Rights believed, according to their own writings."
I guess they forgot all about that little Revolution, when the wrote the Constitution!

Some people will argue that we don't live in the past...that those events are behind us and we are civilized now.

Those people seem really upset that they were denied their CCW licenses! If only the people of Hawaii were that passionate about their Second Amendment rights! ;)
