Does anyone on island have the capability to re-parkarize a M1? I just bought one that is in need of some upkeep.

The entire gun or just the receiver?

To me the entire rifle. The receiver is in decent shape, but the barrel and other parts need it.

Look up John Perreira, he was a Garand guy and I think he had the equipment. Not sure if he's retired though. Never hurts to ask...

Deans the owner of DGR passed away. He redid my M1 and did an awesome job. Shuffs was another option with a very solid reputation. His parkerizing is well known. The CMP custom shop is another off island option. I dont know anyone that can compare to mainland M1 smiths.
You could do a paint like Ceracoat but I think thats awful to do to an M1.

Most M1s have been arsenal rebuilt numerous times. When the gov't did refinishing the M1 the entire barreled receiver is parked at the same time, so the chamber and inside the barrel also gets parked. Commercial smiths will usually plug the chamber, muzzle and gas port to prevent this from happening.
Parkerizing is not hard since the solution temperature is not that high. The problem is getting the solution. Most places will not ship the solution to HI. I parked small M1 parts years ago by making my own solution out of phosphoric acid from concrete etching solution and manganese phosphate from the insides of alkaline batteries.

I am leaning now towards the CMP shop. They can help get me a new stock to boot. I did not mind having to pay a higher price if it allowed me to skip the logistics of shipping it back and forth to the Mainland.

Not cheap but Shuff's Parkerizing is probably the best in the business when it comes to the M1. That is where the majority of serious M1 collectors have there M1s parkerized.

Another kudos for Shuff's, I had them redo my M1 and my 1903A3 and both turned out perfect. Quick turnaround, fair pricing.

Another great gunsmith/restorer is Chuck Moline in Colorado, Warpath Metal Finishing, 720-841-1399, excellent prices, and hes the only guy that I know of that can duplicate all 3 finishes seen on garands, Light Grey, WW2 Era Green and Korea/Vietnam Era Dark Grey/Black. He has a great reputation and has restored guns for me as well as several museums. If you are going to have a gun re done, especially parkerized, have it done right.
