Title: Women and youth involvement
Post by: zippz on May 01, 2016, 08:21:31 AM
Please plan and set a goal for women and youth participation in any events, competitions, training, and classes that you hold.  25% would be a good goal to start with.  Women make up half the population but are probably only 5% of regular shooters at the range.  Raising this up can grow the 2a community and gives more credibility to a CCW push.  We need a solid foundation to build our future projects on which we don't have now.

Same is true for youths as we need to look long term into the future to replace the old timers that retire from shooting.

Cater your advertisements to women in your flyers and announcements.  Invite women to come out to shoot.   Have a spouses day where everyone brings their spouse or gf to the range.

Thank you for this post. It is true, there are female shooters. On Maui we have a chapter of The Well Armed Woman. They have their own day at ukumehame firing range. Second Sunday afternoon of each month. The group is growing in membership and can have anywhere from 4-14 ladies show up on range day to shoot. This smaller, quieter group sure beats an open range day on a Saturday where every table is taken and it is a noisy (sometimes sketchy?) experience.

Perhaps each island could have a female or married couple take the lead and sponsor a TWAW chapter. The uniquely all-female group is really ideal for ladies who want to get involved.  And of course they host family fun shoots as we'll where youth can participate.

I agree that there should be a group on all islands and that's something we need more of.  Is there someone to contact or a website?

Aloha zippz.  The Hawaii Defense Foundation  just hosted an all ladies class in April which was a success. Growing the 2a community is always our top priority. Looking forward to doing more to support this area and growing our firearm community.

For the well armed woman chapters, visit their website. It's easy: thewellarmedwoman.com
I think minimum age at the range is 12?
Pleased to hear that there have been some ladies days on Oahu.
