Reminder that SSF is this weekend!

There's also a range clean up and event scheduled for tomorrow (17 June) from 2 pm until dark (or whenever the setup is completed.

I know Sunday is Father's Day, but this event has been a great time for fathers to share their love and appreciation for the shooting sports with their children.  The 22 lr and BB gun section is a great opportunity to try all sorts of different firearms for children of varying ages.  Working the 22 booths on Father's Day Sunday is one of the best experiences of volunteering for the SSF!

So please come out and enjoy this weekend!

The range is still open during regular hours, correct? I'm bringing my boy out for his first time to the range (he just hit the necessary age) and want to go early for some rifle range time before going to SSF.

Just got home. Only did the first shift. Things were going very smoothly. Not as busy as 2 years ago. But busy nonetheless. It was hot but people stood in line. A lot of kids this year. The BB, Airsoft and .22 lines were long all morning/early afternoon. The old military rifle area was not very busy. The pistol line and the modern military rifle lines were pretty busy.

Did the RSO thing. No real trouble. A couple of non conformists didn't like wearing eyes and ears but finally did so. News came and Harvey dealt with them. I didn't recognize the reporter. My wife said Caldwell came by the main tent and shook hands with everyone.

Saw a bunch of friends from 2A and from previous projects I have worked on over the years. Wife and I stopped by Bubbies and got ice cream before we went home. Overall a good day.

Good day, not as busy I've seen it in the past but should be busier tomorrow.

Saw Inspector, OF, Rocky, Dogman and many others. Finally got to meet Muffinman.

Mayor stopped by and shot an M1A, quite a bit more press this year than I've seen in the past.

Relatively cool due to a nice breeze all day. Good day all around!

My son and I went today...

First, many, many, many thanks to all of the volunteers who keep this event running safely and smoothly!   :worship:

My son turned 13 this year, so this was his first chance to shoot anything bigger than a .22 LR.  His first request? "I want to shoot a revolver."  ???

Kidding, kidding... I love revolvers, and one of these days I'm going to buy one... for real...

We warmed up on .22 pistols, then he got his chance to shoot a revolver, which he enjoyed...  Then had his first chance at an AR, which he said was loud but didn't feel like a bazooka or give him "temporary PTSD."  I shot an AK for the first time, which was enjoyable (except for seating the mag...  who designed that?   ::))

Then we headed up to the rifle side, where he got to shoot a bolt action gun for the first time...  and went 2 for 2 on the 100 yd steel.  That right there is the best Father's Day gift I could get!

Now I've got two kids who like to shoot.  I guess I need another job to support my ammo habit!  :shake:

Thanks again to all the volunteers...  Your positive attitudes and dedication today did more to protect our liberties than a thousand Facebook posts.

Inspector, were you working a station, or wandering between?  Just wondering if we saw you...  :shaka:

Shucks...  Didn't get a pic at the handgun station.  He's a blond-headed kid (didn't seem like there were too many of them there), in shorts and a hoody, but with the hood down.  Why was he wearing a sweatshirt when it was 90 degrees out there?  Cuz he's a 13-year old boy.   :wtf:

I was asked to be an RSO this year. We rotate areas where we were working so I started off near the pistols and shotguns. Then we rotated and I was around the AR's/AK's. After the next rotation I was at the old military rifles (My fav) and then I finished up the shift around 1pm at the .22 side. I wore and orange vest and my Ruger hat and was walking around the various areas inside and outside the tent. There were probably 5 or 6 of us at any one time working the line. Saw a lot of friends and someone special  this year.

Your always welcome. I am usually at bench 94. The guys I shoot with have some of the nicest rifles I have ever seen and shot. Just be prepared to shoot some really awesome guns if you and your son come by.  :shaka: :shaka: :shaka:

i've told the story before
but a year or two ago, i saw one of my patients before the SSF opened in the am
he decided to walk around the range before getting in line
i saw him much later, and i asked where he was
he said he was walking the rifle line, and this really nice man showed him some old military rifles and even let him shoot them
i asked who it was, kind of expecting his answer, "he said his name was dave"
you da man, inspector  :worship:

Great weather all weekend.  The breezes brought a good amount of dust, but at least it helps keep things from being really humid.

Was good to see a bunch of 2A folks.  I saw Inspector, but didn't get a chance to say hi.  I should have seeing his legendary status.   ;D

Saturday was one of the slower days in recent years, but before I left yesterday evening, word was that Sunday was one of the best in recent years.  Reports were that the positive coverage on the news Saturday encouraged many to come out who were either on the fence or even apprehensive about going.  Was really good to see families enjoying the even together.  It was really good to hear that many sons/daughters brought their father to the SSF for Fathers Day, many reporting that that was the wishes of their father.

I was also able to shoot a number of guns that I don't to shoot often and many for the first time.  I really enjoyed both the SCAR-H and SCAR-L.  I was looking forward to shooting the FAL, but it was reported to be malfunctioning, so I passed.   :(

I was going to head over to shoot some clays, but just didn't get around to it.

One of the best parts of the day was the shave ice.  It was really good!

I too enjoyed shooting the SCAR H, the HK and the FAL were the two most popular on the .308 rack. The Hk died first, then the FAL, the SCAR started getting finicky about ammo towards the end of Sunday. Probably just needed a good cleaning but we had zero time. 8 to 12;30 went in kind of a blur, seemed like the line never ended. At the end of the day poor dogman could barely lift his arms after picking up the HK and the FAL hundreds of times. He didn't even want to shoot for free, "too tired".

I was only going to do the morning shift but we were so short people we didn't have enough to really relieve those that needed a break, so I stayed all day. Wife was really happy  :grrr:.

After all was said and done, it was worth it, saw so many people with huge grins on their faces completely enjoying the experience. I'll do it again.

I wanted to try more .308 guns, but didn't have the time.  I really wanted to try the PTR as well.  The SCAR H was a real blast though!  I've shot the FAL before and that's a fun gun to shoot.  When they still had the steel past 200 yards, it was fun to shoot those and that deer silhouette with just irons.

Was dogman at the rack with the SCAR L?

I've helped for the past 5 years or so and yes, it's really rewarding to see people enjoying shooting.  It's long days, but I enjoy it and find it more fun than work.  Hope to see you at the appreciation shoot.
