Took my parents to this new dentist. They saw him on a local TV channel. Tried to sell them a treatment that involved a laser, doxycycline, peroxyl injections and other misc. stuff. Said this is a path towards better dental treatment than what insurance prescribes. $3600 - none of the procedures are covered under insurance. After all that, they still have to eat and I would guess that the bacteria would come back.
He gave them a good scare relating gum disease to pancreatic cancer and citing examples like Patrick Swayze. I looked at his "I love me wall" and saw an autographed poster from the Dog Bounty Huntah. :-X

What was wrong with their old dentist?

Have to be careful with the new types of cleaners and polishers that some dentists use today. Some of these contain SLS (sodium, lauryl sulfate) which most toothpaste have small amounts. The 2 times my dentist assistant used to clean my teeth, I ended up with lots of painful cankers or cold sores under my tongue and at the tip. Only upside was I lost some weight from not eating much since was painful. :-\ Lucky google led me to the cause. This lasted 2-3 weeks and happened within the week of going to the dentist within the year. SLS may not affect everyone but it did me, and the last time I went no SLS stuff and no issues. Never had this happen before and dentist confirmed that that assistant used a different cleaner/polish than he uses.
Google sodium lauryl sulfate side effects and a lot of reviews will show up.

Yup
So funny his sole Yelp review was written by his receptionist.

Out of HMSA network. I'm taking them back. He's a better dentist anyways. His patient-side etiquette is far less than that of a salesman.
