He discussed his personal choices ot the guns that he would choose if he could only keep 5. Many of the guns that he reviews are loaners/review guns, but I'm sure he has lots.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKhtmUsgQyw
That said, what guns would you keep from your collection if you could only keep 3?
Situation: You need to sell off all of your guns except for 3 (due to whatever reason). Add one wild card. You can choose to add 1 gun to your collection with a maximum of $2000 total (gun and optic) before you sell off all others. Ammo considered separate.
Guns I would keep:
1) Glock 17 - Excellent all around pistol. 9 mm is very affordable and common. I can compete with it, do training, comfortable using for self-defense, can conceal reasonably well.
2) My BCM AR - My lighter AR setup. Many uses from competition, training, defense, and even hunting to a certain extent.
3) Wild Card - ADD some sort of .308 semi-auto with optic. With $2000 cap, it would be tough. . . I'll cheat and use the Vortex optic from my Rem 700 and try to get a nice AR10. Maybe a M1A or used SCAR. Reason for more hunting applications and precision shooting itch.

If i had guns (they are scary!) your plan sounds good, but I prefer .45 ACP to 9mm.
Some might prefer .40 S&W due to availability from "donors".
-
P30L 9mm
Remington 870 Police 12 ga
AR with 5.56 and .300 blk uppers and 1-6 scope

Oh, come one. Don't be shy. . . What about a hypothetical list. ;)
Hmmm. . . .40 S&W with 9 mm conversion barrel (seeing as macsak went a somewhat similar route). . .

Multiple uppers. Didn't think about that, but

I would keep
XD45 Tactical (5 inch barrel, 10 round mag)
AK47
AR15 along with 22LR conversion upper. ( since Mac went down that road )
To me which pistol is the hardest decision.
Or.....
S&W 686
Rossi model 92 in 357
Weatherby Vanguard in 243 (or 30.06, I'd have to think)
( in case the bastards want to confiscate all semi autos)
Can I keep 6 just in case ?

For this exercise, no. Have to pick one. And no relegating the second set to your wife, children, etc. That's cheating, and not counted as "additional trying". ;D
Not a real serious exercise of course, but just something to see what is important to me as well as others.

It's got to be...
1. Pistol - XD45
2. Carbine - AR15
3. Shotgun - Rem 870
Done
If I could do a 4th, it would be some kind of 308 bolt action like a Rem 700 or Tikka Light.
5th would be a Ruger 10/22 Takedown.
-
super blackhawk 44mag
GP100 357mag
1911 45acp
AR 5.56
bolt action .308

Lots of XD love here and 45 ACP as well! I guess I did say that ammo was a separate consideration. ;D
super blackhawk 44mag
GP100 357mag
1911 45acp
AR 5.56
bolt action .308
What if you had to trim that down to 3?

What if you had to trim that down to 3?
I had a hard time deciding on 5
but if it were 3:
super Blackhawk 44mag
GP100 357mag
AR 5.56
I just love my 44 and 357 too much to give those up. can use these to hunt if need be. here in Hawaii don't really need anything more than these to hunt with at close range for pigs or deer. would like to keep the 308 but gotta trim it down to 3 firearms.
and if SHTF then I got the AR
-
I would keep my:
AR15
Remington 870
Custom 300 win mag mauser action - sentimental value. Otherwise I would keep a .308 (which i don't yet own.)
Glock 23
Hard to pick which .22 I would keep. I think I would keep the Ruger Single Six.
I would like to get one of the Walther polymer line and if I could get one in .40 cal I would swap that out for my Glock 23. But I am working on a list I have now, not what my list of 5 would be if money weren't an issue ;)

on second thought, I think I would change my rifle choice from my AR to my Arsenal AK. could use it for SHTF and hunting.

I was thinking more hunting on the mainland as well and not necessarily 3 SHTF guns. But if left with those three and SHTF, I'd think you'd do OK hunting many stuff available here with your AR in 5.56.
What if you had to choose between your 44 and 375? ;D
Just kidding

I have a Walther PPQ and it's been a really good gun. Given time, I would think it would prove just as reliable as my 17s.

Got an optic on your AK?
I enjoy my Arsenal AK, but so far I've only shot it with irons. A red dot is in the plans for that gun eventually.

I have a PA micro dot on it. works very well, holds zero.

that's a real tough choice. both are great guns. I'd hate to choose.

Hypo-list....
1) ak
2) mosin
3) single shot 12ga
4) 9mm pistol
5) single shot .22
-
22 rifle
45 1911
9mm glock
Ar15 223
Pump 12 ga shotgun
....
If only 3 choices....
22 bolt rifle
9mm glock
Pump 12 ga.
-
Hypothetically speaking...
SCAR 16
SCAR 17
Glock 17
Remington 700P (300 win mag)
Benelli M2 (12 ga)
-
Surprised no one has thought of a double barrel shotgun with X caliber adapters. If someone did I'm sorry for overlooking it lol.
My realistic 3 choices:
Sp101 4 inch
Ddi ak47
Glock 26 (I choose this cause I can use all magazines in the 9mm line)
Wild card:
I want a ruger red label or any double barrel with all X caliber change adapters (9mm 20 gauge 357 308 win 5.56 7.62x39 44mag etc) in a shtf scenario I'll prob find ammo somewhere

Glock 17
Remington 700P (300 win mag)
Benelli M2 (12 ga)
Hypothetically speaking, what would you choose to keep if you had to trim that list to 3?
And, if hypothetically, you did have both a SCAR 16 and SCAR 17, I'd be very jealous!

Never heard of those. Seems pretty pricey to add all of those adapters, but I guess a second AR upper would get you probably 5-6 adapters, or more.
-
Yeah I never tried it though. There are a couple companies that make them but X caliber got the best reviews. I think 50$ each adapter but if you buy a complete set off the bat you save a 100$ or so. I forget sorry. YouTube has some good and mediocre reviews about it lol if I had the money that would be next.
There's also a revolver rifle where each cylinder has a different chambering. So 1 cylinder would have 5.56 308, 7.62x39 300 blkout . Forgot who it was but it was at the last shot show. Seems intriguing as well as each cylinder prob have its own rifling twist
-
My choice:
1) 16" AR-15 (5.56mm)
2) AK (Bul. or Rus.) (7.62X39)
3) Pump Shotgun <20" barrel (12ga.)
4) Glock 9mm pistol
5) .22LR semi. rifle
1 & 2 might be similar in style but never know who the opposing force might be (zombeys or werewolfs). :D

Just kidding

That is hard. Am I taking int account ammo availability?
Out of what I have now, I would keep:
Glock 23
AR-15
Ruger Single Six
Out of a dream list:
AR in .308
Walther PPQ (or similar variant)
And maybe my Single Six, for its use of a wide variety of ammunitions. Have it upgraded to accept a suppressor
I thought this is an interesting one size fits all gun. Single shot only though.

What if you have to reduce that to 3 guns?
If you're worried about vampires, you definitely should load your own ammo with silver bullets. :P

Assume you have a good supply of ammo now and that will continue for the foreseeable future. That said, in my list, I considered ammo that I felt would be fairly common or good supply, even in event of SHTF. I wouldn't want a gun in .357 Sig or .41 Mag.

That is why I might substitute a 9mm pistol instead of a .40.

My 3 would be:
1) AR carbine
2) .22LR rifle
3) Glock 9mm
Based on ammo availability, portability, adaptability with others. Shotgun ammo is heavy, low capacity and don't have a big stash. AK ammo while good supplies at LGS, will not be as common as .223 rem or 5.56X45.
Right now for regular home defense against your everyday B&E or invasion, my primaries are the .357 mag. levergun, 12 ga. pump and Sig 9mm. The levergun and 12 ga. is slow loading compared to semis for your "only" long guns (although I love the size and fast cycling and power of the .357 mag from a 18.5" barrel). The Sig is good at home because of DA/SA action but is only 8 rds. and heavy. All this is only my .$02 and may not apply to others.
For vampires, 2 fingers shaping a cross and maybe some Holy Water is good enough, IMHO.
-
1. Glock 17 (9mm)
2. Sig P226 MK25 (9mm)
3. Ruger 10/22 (.22LR)
4. Ruger Single Ten (.22LR)
5. Colt 6940 AR-15 (556)
Represents my top 3 calibers based on quantities.

As mentioned in other threads, I'd love to have a .357 lever gun. Yeah, .357 Mag out of the longer barrel is impressive and with very low recoil. That and just being a really fun gun to shoot. I just wish they allowed lever guns with .38/.357 on the silhouette range.

Of that list of 5, I'd keep:
1. Glock 17 (9mm)
2. Sig P226 MK25 (9mm)
5. Colt 6940 AR-15 (556)
I think a 9MM is more suitable for self defense than .22LR, which is how I see a handgun's primary purpose.
The Single Ten would have been to augment the 10/22 since they share calibers and don't require high velocity ammo to cycle. If I drop the Single Ten, then no need to keep the .22LR rifle.
The AR is a better defensive weapon over the 10/22, of course. Again, suitability.
While I have much more .22LR ammo than any other, a 9mm or 556 would use fewer rounds to get the job done!

Hypothetically speaking...
SCAR 16
SCAR 17
Glock 17
Remington 700P (300 win mag)
Benelli M2 (12 ga)
Instead of trimming down to 3, I'd actually like to add 1 more.
A 22lr rifle (10/22)

Well, I basically did this when I moved from the mainland. I fit as much as I could into a pelican case and left everything else behind. The final cut was:
1)AR 15, 5.56, 20" stainless heavy barrel, free floated, custom milled muzzle brake, SWFA scope and ADM mount. Basically a DMR style/overweight hunting gun
2)AR15, 300 blackout, 16" dissipator. Versatile lightweight brush gun in a caliber that I had hoped would be more available, but found out it's not as common here as it was back home.
3) Ruger security six, 357 mag, 6", stainless. Tough as nails workhorse pistol, double duty as a hunting gun, and fully compliant with HI's capacity limits.
4-5) I cheated and brought 2 H&R hand rifle frames with 5 barrels in 300 blackout, 410/45 colt, 243, 22 hornet, and 2 different choked 12 gauge barrels.
If I'd have known what I know now I'd have left my AR15 in 300 blackout back home and took my Remington model 8 in 35 Remington with its professionaly mounted antique Lyman scope. If I'm gonna have a gun I can't find ammo for it should at least be a pretty gun... But really I'd have swapped it for my Savage mkII 22 bolt action. There's more 22 on shelves here than I've seen back home in years!
Dream list is a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range, blunderbuss, nerf vulcan chaingun, M41-A pulse rifle, and a potato gun with a large supply of "personal massager" ammo
