For anyone with a .22 rifle with or without a scope, there is a fun match on the Sunday of the first full weekend of every month. Rifles with scopes over 8 lbs are considered "heavy" class. Anything under 8 lbs is considered "light". All shooting is done in the standing position without support. No shooting jackets or gloves allowed. The course of fire is 40 rounds plus sighters. Targets are10 steel chickens at 25 yds, 10 pigs at 50 yds, 10 turkeys at 75 yds, and 10 rams at 100yds. Match fee is $5.00 and includes a potluck lunch.

Very cool.
A question about the potluck lunch, competitors bring a dish and $5?
-
Nah, just bring your $5. The club handles the lunch.
I try to make this every month, end up actually being there about 50% of the time. There was a match today, and I was actually at the range with some .22 rifles, but had unpacking to do first so I was too late to play. No worries, there's always next month!
You can also compete with .22 handguns, btw! Scoped or not, any action.

This sounds like a lot of fun. After taking the 10/22 out, I'd love to try this out.
The only problem is I have a hard time getting out on Sundays. What time does it start?
-
They "like" to start at 9. Usually what this actually means is that at 9, everyone who is there to shoot the match begins the process of setting up the targets. Jump in, lend a hand! With luck, the shooting will start before 10.
I try to get there just a bit before 9, so I'm there to help. Just tell them at the window you're interested in the match.
-
Sounds interesting. Usually how long are the matches?
-
That mainly depends on how many shooters there are. I've shot in maybe 4-5 of these, and they've all been pau before 1pm.
Most of the match consists of "hurry up and wait" interposed with "run out and set up targets." You'll only be firing a total of 40 shots, 2 strings of 5 targets each at 25, 50, 75 and 100 yards.
The way it's structured, you have a certain amount of time (I think 2:30 for rifles, 3:00 for pistols) to engage 5 targets at a given range. Then there is a pause of several minutes. Repeat this sequence 3 times for a total of 20 targets engaged. Pause to run out and reset targets, then repeat the sequence another 4 times.
At the same time you are shooting, up to 3 other people are shooting too. If, for example, you are on the left side shooting 25 and 50 yards, someone else is on the left side shooting 75 and 100 yards, while 2 others are on the right side, one shooting close, one shooting far.
So come expecting to spend a lot of time talking story and resetting targets, a little bit of high-pressure shooting, and to leave with a full stomach.
The next one is Feb 7.

The match is this coming Sunday. I wonder what the menu will be?
-
Any word as to when the next one will be?
-
From what Teichi first posted, the next one should be this Sunday. He hasn't been on in a while though.
-
They are on the Sunday after the first Saturday of each month. That is to say, they are on the 1st Sunday, unless that Sunday is the first day of a month, in which case they are on the 2nd Sunday. So, in this case, the next one is SUnday, May 2.
