I think the new rules are slugs at 100 only on the rifle side.  That's what it was the last time I shot a shot gun there, maybe middle of last year.

Sucks....  :(

We have someone in our group that shoots slugs at paper at 25 yards on the rifle side regularly. So I think that is okay as well.

Really wished there was an area that is designated for buckshot outside of the days when HDF has their shotgun courses and open shoots. I keep Federal Premium 00 Buck for home defense (the "Flite Control" type with the tight pattern inside of 15 yards). Would love to see how it patterns and its difficult to do so when indoor ranges do NOT allow outside ammo and this type of 00 Buck isnt available for purchase as range ammo.

The "Flight Control" works pretty well. I have shot it at a few distances including between 40 and 50 yards and I would say it stays all inside an average doorway size width. You could shoot it out to 30 yards and all the pellets would stay inside a human size target.

From what I've seen during HDF's shotgun course - at about 15 yards there isn't too much difference between a slug and the Federal flight control buckshot.  It makes a fist sized group in paper which is pretty incredible compared to the spread I get with standard 00 buck from my 18.5" barrel.

So can we shoot slugs at 50?

Otherwise no sense even taking my shotgun anymore.

Looking to shoot trap tomorrow.   Haven't been there in years.   Any new rules?  Still $5? Still only able to load one at a time?

Me too.  I've shot Fed LE127RS and the full power F130RS 12 ga. slugs at KHSC rifle side @ 50 yds.  I picked the far end left to shoot.  Would like an area at KHSC that can shoot buckshot by the rifle side @15-25 yds.  Shot slug, birdshot and buck at open HDF shoot once.
Went to HNL Firearms indoor range few times and they had Fed LE 12 ga. 00.   Good to shoot at close in ranges.  Would like to shoot #1 and #4 BK also but this is only at HDF days probably.

The trap range has a patterning board. If you make nice with those guys, could be they don't mind you patterning a load.

As with anything else, some people ruin things for others.  They used to allow  close range patterning and such with what ever.  But of course people blast other folks target stands, unload indiscriminately into the ground destroying the grass, and hip shoot like the movies....  thus the crazy restictions.....  :(

Exactly. Some bad accidents dictate the rules. i.e. 5 round rule; slow fire no rabid fire

#8 or smaller at skeet. #7.5 or smaller at trap

#8 or smaller at skeet. #7.5 or smaller at trap

Reminder: Shot sizes are confusing to some. Bigger number means smaller pellet size. #9 is smaller than #8. And don't confuse 00 Buckshot with 9 pellets for #9 target loads.

When in doubt ask the Range Officer
