Just took my cable bill from $260 a month to $145.
Got rid of HBO, showtime and epix ($25)
Told them i was looking elsewhere and that i thought my bill was kind of high compared to the mainland and other Hawaii company's.They said they can take a look to see if there is anything they can do for me as im a long time customer, put me on hold for 15 minutes and when they came back they took of a $40 month charge for upgraded internet, took of $30 in box fees, took of $10 in whole home dvr costs and the reflective taxs.
They wiped out almost 15% of my monthly house bills.

Four years ago, I cancelled all cable TV services and just kept RoadRunner. I upgraded to the fasted they had at the time for $69/mon. Since then the speeds have increased to 500MBPS 300MBPS for what I was paying for 30MBPS.
My bill is now $70, and I don't miss cable TV at all. Between over-the-air digital channels, Netflix, Amazon Prime and web content, I have no shortage of access to entertainment or news.
I even like not having to binge watch everything I used to record during the week to make room for the following week's shows.
With the money I save every month, I can afford movie tickets, premium content on Amazon, or whatever else. Plus I'm not supporting the cable TV networks who use that revenue to feed Liberally biased crap to those who want to watch.

Got rid of HBO years ago when I first saw that Maher creep. Don't have Showtime or other premium movie channel. Whenever there's a cable outage like about half a day, I call Oceanic and they give me some little discount on the next billing for my grumblings.
I have to say that dealing with Oceanic is easier than dealing with Haw'ntel. I once had a big static issue with my landline and had to wait two weeks to get a service appointment. When the guys came out they traced the problem to water in some plastic housing which was flooded with rain water. They fixed my issue by hand scooping the water out, but when I asked if they sealed the leak path in the housing, they told me they'd do it later. Never seen them in my area since. Ft. Shafter Bowling Center was without a landline for over a month.

Don't get me started on HTC. Trying to trouble shoot my dad's land line. Knew it was an "outside line" issue after one diagnostic call. Well, took two more calls for the tech to "diagnose" that. (Face palm).
Hey have this call back system to help reduce hold times. Well, when you get the call back, be prepared to be on hold for an hour or more.
Then everyone you talk to about issues experienced, it's always another department's issue. Sigh. Good thing I don't personally have any HTC services.

Here's a little known secret. The roadrunner hi speed Internet signal is plumbed through the regular cable TV line. If you only subscribe to the Internet, you will also get the analog cable TV stations.

I remember learning that in our telecoms class. I never removed the filter but I heard the ~$50 difference in the cable and TV package is the placement of it on the line.

Not absolutely sure but you might also be able to get local HD stations using the QAM channels.
You would need a modern digital tv set though.

There is a Hi Pass and Low Pass filter , remove the filter(s) to get the analog cable signals.
I used the same line for internet and get free cable tv. If you ask the cable guy politely they sometime tell you which filter to remove.

Nope, It just removes unwanted freq, depend on which pass it requires. It only affects item after the filter.
All signal prior to the main distribution box is fiber, everything is converted to both analog and digital at the the sub box.

Did you replace the oceanic cable modem with your own? Can save you a lot of money in the long run. Modems cost about $50 to $150. I think oceanic charges $7 a month.

I bought my own. It's cheaper as long as you get 13+ month's use out of it. If you get one that does the fastest possible speed, you won't have to upgrade the modem later if the prices drop and you decide to get faster service.
Costco had one in stock in Waipio that's 300MBPS service compatible and on the TWC list of approved modems. Haven't looked for them there lately.
If you are thinking of 100MBPS speed, I have 2 modems I can offer for a deep discount! I had them as primary and spare for working from home. I upgraded to 300MBPS, and had the get the faster modem.

Oceanic did that for me too. I told them, if you don't hook me up, I'm going to HTel. But jokes on them because when I put my addy in the Htel website, my address is not accessible. Hahahha.
Got the highest speed internet, free wifi, free shomax, free DVR.
