If you have a dashcam feel free to post your bad driver video here.
I have some speeding cars video but this one was yesterday.
Apparently people don't care about those pesky lines on the road...

Lot of F'ed up drivers out there in this so-called paradise. Lots without insurance too. Getting a dash cam is a good idea.

2pm on the H1 eastbound near Pearl City.
The driver cuts across 4 lanes at approximately 95 MPH.

I clocked this dude at an average speed of 115 MPH

That's about as fast as I've ever driven, but only rarely while I was in California. I don't remember exactly but normal highway speeds there can be around 80 mph. Except for the speed they seemed to be driving somewhat normally and safely, they even used their turn signals haha.

how did you find all those vids of the prick on the bike?
-
Good reminders of why I stopped riding long ago. People here are in such a hurry, don't stop for signs or lights, and generally don't pay attention to the road.
You really do take your life in your hands when you ride a bike. When you ride on Oahu, you put your life in the hands of the people you see driving every day.

Nice one inertia.
Once, I was doing 60 on the H1 and a cop zoomed in front and brake checked me.
What an idiot.
-
Once this lady brake checked me. I just (safely) tail gated her the entire way till my off ramp she was busting out a phone and honking the horn the entire time. I refuse to reward bad behavior.

Glad to see your behavior is above reproach, especially when property and lives can be lost.

It was in traffic, I doubt lives can be lost. I also have access to a brake pedal. Hence, safely. Glad you can read enough of the source to sensationalize it and grasp on straws that fit your theory. Next you can twist it to some conspiracy theory that she was an government sponsored alien from outer space sent to annoy me and proves that god exists.

There's something called a "safe following distance" no matter how fast you're traveling. Scientists actually did accident analysis and stopping distance experiments to provide us with these universally accepted and taught rules.
"Tail gating" is not only unsafe, but illegal.
But then, some people think they know more than the rest of us!

Yeah i wasn't going anywhere near those speeds. Hawaii law is "shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent." That's not defined at all. I was in no danger and there was no danger from me to others. If you are going 5 miles per hour you don't need 3 car lengths to stop simple science. All you have done is sensationalize it to fit you agenda.

Since you know the formula and the law so well, at what speed is tailgating considered SAFE?

My "agenda" was to comment that your actions were not only illegal but unsafe. No one should brag about doing what you did.
At the bare minimum, you were harassing, if not terrorizing, the other driver out of nothing other than road rage.
Keep trying to deflect and rationalize your actions. None of it has helped you so far ....

The other driver was constantly brake checking, on her phone and honking her horn. I highly doubt I was the one doing the terrorizing. I just refused to reward brake checking, cutting someone off, using their phone while on the road and public nuisance with their intended action of others giving up. As per the mathematical calculation in my previous post, I was indeed safe and broke no laws.

You said you were tailgating her. That's enough to say you were unsafe and illegal.
Look up the term. If you weren't tailgating, then you lied to make yourself sound "bad".
Did you lie than, or are you lying now?
tail·gate
/ˈtālˌɡāt/
verbinformal
gerund or present participle: tailgating
1.
drive too closely behind another vehicle.
-
http://khon2.com/2014/07/23/ask-hpd-tailgating-a-car/
Ask HPD: Tailgating a car
Question: Can someone be pulled over for tailgating?
Answer: A vehicle can be stopped for tailgating or following too closely when it can cause an unsafe situation.
Following a vehicle too closely is dangerous for obvious reasons.
A driver should leave enough space between vehicles to allow for the proper distance to safely brake should a sudden stop be made by the vehicle in front.
A helpful way to measure a safe distance is to count a three second interval from when the first vehicle passes a fixed object to when your vehicle passes.
If your vehicle is too close, simply slow down to increase the gap.

All of this is subjective based on opinions of the person/observer. (the definitions and hpd stuff you quoted) I used the term tailgating cause it expressed the simplest way to say what I was doing. What I was doing does not literally fall under that term. I guess I could edit everything to say I was following very closely yet over the safe minimum distance. I did the calculations I have facts on my side.

If your an alert driver you reaction time would be somewhere in the 1 second mark, Thats from you seeing there break light come on to you hitting the breaks.
Your saying you need only 12.5 ft of space to stop safely would indicate that you were going at 12.5 Feet per Second = 8.522727 Miles per Hour.
any faster then that and you would impact the rear of her car in the 1 second time it took you to react and press the break, And that doesent even factor in the other cars deceleration speed caused by them breaking.
This shows 1 of 3 things.
she was not break checking you, She was stuck in the same bullshit trafic you were.
You math is bullshit.
The whole story is made.

it takes all 4 lanes to make the turns up H2, . but I could not get it over 162 on the speedo. wish i was going down H2, dunno how much speed I could have gotten.

Yes cause she was clearly just randomly honking her horn, sticking her middle finger out the window and taking angry pictures with her cell phone cause that's what normal people do in traffic.
Also I was using the metric of I was going around 5mph if you bothered to look up the formula it has reaction time built in.....obviously it wasn't only going 5mph but I adjusted my distance based on speed. The fact that I never hit her no matter what brake checks she did simple shows that I wasnt "too close".

What were you driving? When I was living on Oahu I owned a 2009 CTSV, auto, so governor controlled top speed of 179mph. The stick version had no governor so top speed of that was 197mph, but the auto was faster 0-60 and in the qtr mile.
I loved that car but sold it because it would be good on the gravel roads of Puna.

1986 BMW 635CSi
Engine swap was done in 1993. I manage to sustain a speed of 150 most of the way up H2 from Pearl City until I crossed Kipapa gulch. The cops were chasing me from the Waiau power plant. I was told that their subsidized Cutlas Supreme at the time could barely hit 130mph and had extremely poor handling.
The complete engine was imported from the Hartge Tuning Shop in Germany; including new computer, full exhaust and headers. Ship via air freight to Hawaii.

Signaling one way and going the opposite direction is a tactic I learned in Oklahoma. If you try to change lanes, some Okie redneck will try to cut you off on purpose. Signal misdirection makes the rednecks go one way while you go the other.
Adapt. Improvise. Overcome. :shaka:

I don't know why people like to speed up just to make it more difficult for another person to change lane. It's childish.
Now i can understand when people are waiting patiently to get on the freeway and a jackass bypasses everyone and cuts in front. That's the reason why certain on ramps are backed up.

SOP in SoCal, and why most drivers do not signal when changing lanes. The MB drivers will just start moving over, without a space to get into, expecting the peasants to make room for them.

What was the point in doing that?

OMG maybe so. Just last month I went to the bank about a block away from that intersection.
When I left the bank I noticed a lady security guard sitting in her car next to my car.
She said "have a nice day" as I opened my door.
I asked her if she was working and she said she was eating lunch in her car while watching the entrance to the bank.
She told me that sometimes there is a large black woman who sometimes wanders into the parking lot and hangs around.
She also told that she smells really, really, really bad.
I'm guessing this is the same lady.
I suppose this is why the state made the portable hygiene trailer. I think that was a pretty good idea.

Yeah probably her then. Went to pick up lunch at Bob's a while back and that one lady was just sitting there peeing, like the bench was a toilet seat.

I just ate ribs from BOB's on Sunday night. My doggy is really enjoying that huge leftover bone.
I was surprised at how busy that place was at 8pm on a Sunday.

Hahaha. Yeah. Great food and tasty, but That place is disgusting, no idea how they get a green placard, they must pay the right people....
Maybe that's why the other branch franchise don't taste the same and have that same great flavor.. 🤔😂🤣

Continuing on with the wacky folks out on the road......
Here is a video from last week. A girl crosses a busy street in Kalihi and never bothers to look out for cars.
She just keeps staring at her phone.
Isn't there a law about that? Same as distracted cellphone drivers?

She's in a marked crosswalk. She has the right of way.
...
Well yeah for sure she has the right of way.
But That's not the point.
If there was a car in the lane to my right, that car would not be able to see the girl.
And she was not looking for oncoming cars.
It's illegal to be staring at the phone, since 2017.

It's the 2017 Distracted Walking Law. You can TALK on the phone while crossing the street, but you can be fined for LOOKING at your phone, tablet, game player or other electronic device.
Laws don't change stupid people's behavior. If they were smart enough to follow the law, they might be smart enough to behave in a way that negates the need for such a law!
First-time text-while-walking violators will be fined $15 to $35, second-time violators within the same year will be fined $35 to $75, and those who get ticketed a third time will be charged $75 to $99.

Closed for over 2 years.
Made me sad. That was my favorite manapua shop. Steamed manapua and pork hash was my go-to treat to bring to work for everyone, especially if we had mainland visitors.
No matter how many of them I warned not to eat the wax paper stuck to the bottom, there was always one who didn't get the memo -- because he ATE the "memo!"
LOL! :geekdanc:
Libby Manapua Shop closes after nearly 57 years in Kalihi

Pfft, Libby's was sub-par, you could get a better Manapua off a low tier van in a bad neighborhood.

Yet, the product was sub-par.

I like Island Manapua up Gulick street.
7-11 is pretty good, especially when everybody else is closed for the day.
Chun wa kam is good.
My favorite, which is now closed, was China House at Ala Moana.
Didn't we have a thread about this before?

You presume too much.
The owner was retiring, and the family wasn't interested in carrying on the business.
Libby's used to run out of manapua well before 11:00AM everyday. If you didn't get there early enough, or didn't call your order in ahead well before then, you missed out.
They also shutdown annually for the month of August for vacation.
Not exactly hurting for business.

Yes, but someone felt it necessary to hijack the thread to voice a food opinion.
Maybe it's related to the bad driver's thread ...... he got lost?

This is the El cheapo Walmart dashcam. It was $30.
It's a pretty basic cam. Similar to what I had for many years.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/onn-1080p-HD-Black-Car-Dash-Cam-2-4-LCD-Screen-110-Degree-Vision-Angle-Play-Video-Recordings-0-5-lb/1819691798
I paid $25 plus a few dollars for an extended Warranty. It uses a micro SD memory card and generates avi files. It is a pain to remove the Itty bitty memory card. Then I used a video editor to cut and zoom into the interesting parts.
It comes with an 8gb card which holds about 45 minutes, then it starts to over-write the old video. I use a 16gb card but would prefer a 32gb.

The new rules of the road are simple....
1. Beeg trucks ALWAYS have the right-of-way
2. Kids on E-bikes ALWAYS have the right-of-way on streets AND parks.

Somehow people of hawaii get plenty money to buy fireworks while complaining about the high cost of living here.
Well, they should have no problem paying the violation fees once the warning period expires and the traffic cameras at intersections start issuing the real fines.
