Title: New Boyd's Stock
Post by: mrgaf on February 23, 2017, 03:30:42 PM
Got the new stock for my old warhorse Tikka M595 7mm-08. After 4 bu's, 2 antelope, couple of axis, Alaskan silver fox, and quite a few New York State woodchucks, the old stock had seen better days. Pictures don't show the scrapes and dings (each one a memory) an a crack forming in the forearm, the pop gun needed a "makeover", not to mention that I never really liked the old stock, especially the butt end. The swap out took 10 minutes, fit like a glove with a beautifully cut free float barrel channel. Action screws torqued to 42 inch pounds per Boyd's recommendation. Here are some before and after pictures (not the greatest). Shipped to my door $184.00. This gun was always a great shooter. Hopefully it will remain the same or improve.  :geekdanc:

What a great looking stock!  Simple drop in?  Love that shade of grey with lam. :o  Where did you get this stock?  Is it heavier than your old one?

Thanks!
Got it direct from Boyd's.com. I think that's the only way to get them. Thier website isn't optimized for iPads and such, might want to use a desktop or laptop. You can also call and order that way. Took about two weeks from order to delivery. Workmanship is fantastic and precise mM Tikka dropped in but was nice and snug, no slop. Everything lined up perfectfully. It seems a little lighter that the boat oar that the rifle came with but that could just be me.
Boyd's does have a quirk, though. Once you order it, no changes are allowed. I wanted the polymer forearm tip but for some reason it didn't take during the ordering process. They were very nice and apologized but could not cancel or change but shipped it for free and now that I have it I'm glad the tip wasn't there. Shipping would have been $25 which isn't bad considering they ship via UPS 2D air.
Do your homework, make sure you know what you want, check your specs and choices before you click the order button and you will not be disappointed.

I'm betting that nice reverse cheek weld like my old Rem 700 BDL will be a lot easier on the total recoil.  Winner, winner, venison dinner.  Now, for how it shoots.  Good luck and thanks for sharing.

I have a couple of Boyd's Stocks. I think they are both high quality and worth the price I paid for them.

Nice color on your stock BTW.
