FYI, the NRA has posted updates for pistol instructors regarding the blended and instructor led training on the NRA instructor portal. An updates screen pops up as soon as you log in. It pops up for training counselors...not sure if it's visible for instructors.

I heard from other instructors that they didn't get the message....guess it was just sent to training counselors. The message is about how instructors have the option of either doing the pistol class through blended learning (current way) or instructor led training (old way). Also some procedural changes for both. No timeline given. Let me know if you have questions through PM.

More info on the upcoming changes to the NRA Basic Pistol course which is right around the corner. It'll give new shooters the opportunity to get an NRA certification.

Thanks for the update zippz.
They (NRA) still overcharging for shipping though. I order 6 packets and the shipping is $35!

They add $20 to Hawaii orders to their regular shipping. It's better to do large orders instead of small ones, so combine orders with a friend.
Still have to wait for the new lesson plans, not sure if it'll be an online download or ordered through the website. Guess we'll see tomorrow morning.

I went through the NRA Basic PIstol lesson plans for changes and everything seems the same as the old program with some minor wording changes. I received my order of student packets which consist of the same hardcover book and student exam as before. You could use the old packets if you still have them. The lesson plans and powerpoint presentations can be downloaded from the NRA instructors website.
The change from the past program is the inclusion of the shooting qualification requirements and detailed checklist you go through with the student which carried over from the blended learning. The shooting qualification course starts at 10 feet and goes up to 45 feet which cannot be done at the KHSC silhouette and bullseye pistol ranges unless you use the bays. X-RIng range prohibits teaching classes. I believe Honolulu Firearms allows you to teach if you have a membership.
The blended learning versions was changed to be a bit better than before where the instructor purchases codes for $25 (instead of the previous $60), and gives them to the students to attend the course. I taught a blended learning course once and it didn't make sense as the student spends hours taking the course online and extra money, but the instructor still has to give a 4 hours class on the required topics and 2 hours live fire per HRS. I spent the extra class time on reviews and dry firing practice. The students said they liked the online class.
Also HRA updated their HRS summary Jan 6, 2017. http://hawaiirifleassociation.org/hawaii-gun-laws/

With the blended learning shooting qualification, there was a "target scaler" application you could use to compensate for distances by varying the size of the qualification target.
I wonder if we can still use that?

I didn't see that, where I can get that? I was thinking about scaling targets to 25 yards, but the targets are 4" at 10 feet so will equate to 2.5' at 25 yards. I guess it could be done. Get a few stands with a giant posterboard circle on it, then patch it up between students or staple sheets of paper to patch it.

For the three qualifications at 10', 15', and 20', the target size at 25 yards would be 30", 20", and 15" respectively. You can find the target scaler on the nra instructor website in the blended pistol faq section. http://trainingupdate.nra.org/blended-pistol-faq.aspx#i11

Ah that program, thought you meant some sort of printing program. I'm going to look for some sort of paperboard, cardboard, or plastic to cut a 30" circle from and clamp it to my target frame.
