So with the game https://2ahawaii.com/index.php?topic=26884.0 (https://2ahawaii.com/index.php?topic=26884.0) i want to try and create scenarios to make you think about stuff you might not have thought of and give you a chance to give an honest awsner. Becasue i dont want that topic to get off topic, This post is so we can discuss awnsers and build on them. Maybe share or learn a thing or two.
the first thing i noticed about people awnsers for question one is about running to the store and grabbing last minute things. with 24 hours notice and you being the only one to know this would be a great idea. But im surprised how no one said anything about trying to verify what your friend e-mailed you. I mean he just told you the world was going to end, Why would he be the only one to know ? Websites like Spaceweather.com give great information on pending solar storms, CMEs and meteor showers.
So i would say step one should be Trust but verify.
Step 2 would be to contact family members and get them home. Be it picking them up from school early or telling them to come home from work. But remember beyond your immediate family every person you tell will become an imidiate threat. Simply because you told them that means you had advanced knowledge, To them that might cause them to believe your hiding more stuff or you caused it.
Step 3 Gather supplies. Now costco and sams would be great places to gather supplies. Bulk foods that last a long time would be the way to go. Rice, Beans, Sugar, flour, canned food, Water, powdered drinks and milk. Battery's, generators, flashlights and a whole bunch more. They carry all that . BUT and heres a big one, Some one that buys all that stuff is going to get noticed. You walk out of the store with a pallets of stuff racking up thousands of dollars in food stuff people are going to remember you. Your opsec may be blown. Is the risk worth the reward ? I would say it is. But be aware that that stuff could make you a target. Also remmber when you get home your going to need to unload and store all those items, Are your neighbors going to see you unloading ? do you have space to store a pallet of rice ?

OpSec is a non-concern. I drive miles to get to my nearest Big Box wholesaler. So what if someone notices my unusual purchase? I notice unusual purchases all the time!
1. They don't know me
2. They don't know where I live
3. Even if 1 & 2 are false, after the calamity strikes, they're still going to be miles away from my house, and at the mercies of whatever the state of the roads and travel conditions are should they decide to come over.
As far as verifying... it would hardly be much of a game is the warning was false!

I'm on one of the outer islands.
I'm set to survive, in fact it is the Oahu
politicians and people that support them
that are the biggest threat
to me. I have food, water, transportation
( if you like horses), medical et al, I really don't care
if Oahu Democrats get nuked, in fact
my life will become better if that
happened.
I don't need Democrats.
I don't need your police.
I don't need your unions.
I just want to be free, from the likes
of Hawaiian Democrats.
Flame on guys!
If you think in a grid down situation people arent going to move between the islands your lying to yourself. In a long term grid down situation people will move between the islands to spread out and increase the land useage to grow food.

Just don't go to molokai hahaha safer to go to lanai or Maui just by pass that boot looking island .

My bad. I had assumed, as a part of the game, your "friend" was trusted enough to be telling the truth, working at high level NASA and all... I wouldn't know how you would positively verify the claim one way or another, unless you, coincidently, have an other "friend" that works in high level government position that would be privy to such information. You can't google it.... you'd get all kinds of BS
CME solar flare would probably knock out the power grid for a short while at the worst case, EMP pulse may knock out some electronics. All in all, the scenario wouldn't be too bad of a disaster, IMHO.
It would be at least 3 days before people, who don't prepare, start to panic and look for essentials, like drinking water.
Clean Water, IMO is the most important thing to stockpile, if advanced warning of any disaster is available.

FBI sounds like he lives in the boonies, it would probably take years for refugees to find him, if ever. First place people would ransack is the city, then suburbs, then go out into the wilderness to forage... If he's set up good, he probably wins the game... hehe

My thinking also that your friend is reliable. It's like when the animals start rapidly going inland and the water starts receding, or the chairs in your home start moving around by themselves, I don't need to verify nothing with anybody that some crap is about to happen.

A large enough flare would basically wipe out all electronics that are not shielded. There is no short while rebuild. Hell our transformers are hard to replace and all of them would basically fry. Goodbye power grid.

You mean to tell me no one is using radios for hobbies that still need vacuum tubes and full-size transistors? I find that hard to believe!

Power grid, I don't think your local powerline uses transformers purchased at thetubestore.com

You said "There is no short while rebuild."
I thought you meant "short wave".
My bad for thinking you could write a coherent sentence and just made a mistake.
Before criticizing "reading comprehension", you should exercise "proofreading."

My bad for that sentence but I don't see how shortwave has any importance in a major function of society.

it will in the case of an EMP...

That seems to be a running theme. If you don't already know something, it can't possibly be important.
Shortwave may be the only means of communicating in a disaster specifically because the technology is widespread and not dependent on integrated circuits and large power sources.
Communication is how people survive if they need help, can offer help or simply sharing valuable information on what's happening.

BTW, you might see the above reply as an apology, but it's not. You insulted my reading ability based on your screwed up non-sentence.
Making sure you aren't saddling up that high horse too soon! :geekdanc:

it's old technology, so it has no meaning to millennials who believe that newer has to be better...

I wish i was a millennial. But yes newer is better.

Due to the fact that we have some members that can't have a conversation about something without going to personal attacks and general shit talking ( basically ruining any hope of a meaningful thread) I have decided not to continue this or thread/ the game

??? :( London808 sorry you feel this way, I was really looking forward to the next scenario, screw the big heads and shit talkers, I want to play, this is a great idea

All honesty if I got solid info of something like that happening I would 1. Post it here . 2 pack the family up and head to Hawaii kai . 3 jump on boat and head to molokai . There's natural caves and basically everything we would need off grid to survive (lol I think )
