I'm fortunate.
My wife likes guns.
She shoots with me and is doesn't mind when I buy or trade guns.
How does your wife or significant other feel about guns?

at first my gf was totally against it...
we had dinner with her our friends and the guy is on the swat team and we got to discussing guns and owning them...
he made a great point and said "every responsible person should own a gun cause you dont want to be that person who couldnt defend themselves"
then i made her take the class with me to get our permits...
she will never buy one but loves playing with the ones i purchased...
she even shoots my sig...
she loves me :love: and doesnt mind me buying/having guns... ;) :shaka:

She's ok with them. But at first when I met her she would say all kinds of anti-gun things saying "Oh I wouldn't have a gun in the house kids might get ahold of um" you got to understand she's from Oregon and her moms a hippie. but as the years went by I started changing her mind about things and she started warming up to them. She's still afraid to shoot them but I think once she fires one she's going to like them
. The only bad thing is we don't have any frikin shooting ranges here.

oh I know what you mean I lived with mine for awhile. It sucks I've been with here for seven years, three of those years I felt a shame, and dirty to talk about guns in front of her and here family. Once I was looking at a shotgun news mag In borders and she saw and looked at me with a face that could kill and asked "why are you looking at that?" it throu me off, I thought I did something wrong. But like I said, i slowly started to explain to her how it is, why we need them, etc. and like I said she's starting to warm up to them.
I feel your pain brah.

She loves it, and she has a special affinity for rifles. I'm gonna try to get her to start skeet shooting with me.

She knew I always wanted one. She was against it until one day we were talking about SHTF scenarios. If the world as we know it goes to sh!t we might as well be as prepared as we can. You know what they say about failing to prepare...

I'm also pretty lucky my gf is a champ! She's shot every gun Ive owned so far including a 12 gauge, she realizes the importance of being prepared. Plus I think she's happier about me spending my money on guns than drinking and partying, which is how I spent The better part of the last decade.

My SO doesn't really care either way. She was excited for a little while when I brought her home a revolver, and told her it was for her to use 'just in case'. She shoots with me every so often. I am slowly turning her into a conservative.

mine always ask "why do you need another one?" and no matter what i say she'll shake her head. shes not against guns at all just me spending money i guess. but i assure her it's a great investment.

I'm pretty lucky.... My SO shoots with me and our time at the range is something we do together. It also helps that folks at the range are really friendly.
Caliber choices at the range are intentionally chosen so it is something she can shoot comfortably. Ie. let her shoot the 9mm or 22 cal instead of the .44 or 12 gauge.

I'm more lucky than most. My wife has bought every bottle of single malt scotch that I own, all cigars that I can remember consuming in the last 5 years and a gift certificate to attend Magnum's NRA basis pistol class for my birth day. ;D

My wife doesn't get why I have so many, but doesn't give me a hard time either. As long as kids are fed and bills get paid, she's cool. She could care less about going shooting though.

My wife did not like guns when I first met her. But when we discussed living together she told me I have to live with her cat. So I told her she has to live with my guns and my hobby. She agreed. We have been together for 18 years now. The cat is gone and replaced a couple of times over but I still have the same guns!
She has come shooting with me twice. First time she shot my .22 revolver and did VERY well with it. And I thought she would come with me more often. The second time she shot my Glock and Sig. She liked the Sig but realized her wrists are very weak. We have talked a few more times about her getting a gun and coming with me. So far it is all been talk.
She has seen a sale on the .22 ammo I like at YG and bought a few bricks for me. She gives me giftcards to Cabelas and encouraged me to make my newest purchase of a wheelgun.
Not bad considering she doesn't like guns. :thumbsup:

Wife tolerated my "arsenal" when we got married. Not much she could do about it clearly. Sold most of them on the mainland before moving here, which I now regret, and there has been some peeing and moaning about my slow buildup here.
Recently she took the NRA course, and has been bitten by the handgun thing. Turns out she is a damn fine shot. Now that she has her own Colt 380 Hammerless, can't wait to take it shooting. Seems to be different now she has her own, rather than firing mine. Might be a lesson there.

My experience is pretty much par for the course here. My wife is a mixed bag-
She grew up in the country and around guns,but could care less about them.
She understands the practicality of having a gun for protection, but at the same time wonders why I want another gun.
She had a carry permit in VA, but very rarely carried.
She shoots with me occasionallly( I usual force her to go), but when she goes she enjoys it and is a great shot.
I attempted to really engage her in shooting by buying her a 9mm and had it powder coated with pink flames. She loves her girly pink pistol, but Im still waiting for the day for her to say" hey, let's go shooting!"
The next household drama is when to introduce my daughter to shooting, but thats a whole other post on its own.

My other half at first hated guns and was afraid of them. Every time I brought up the subject of buying a gun she would say "what do you need that for?" or "stuff like that never happens". Over several years of my pestering her and my neighbor talking to her she finally began to at least budge. It was the show Top Shot on The History Channel which helped her see guns were not just for killing and not evil. After that we went to the Shooting Sports Fair and a couple of handgun safety classes, the one at Magnum and the LIFE one. The LIFE one had a female instructor which really helped her out and made her feel comfortable. I think its easier when women approach other women about topics like this. Now she enjoys shooting. And she has seen that by and large the gun community is made up of friendly and nice people.

i'm lucky. mine grew up hunting w/ his dad, so it's "the more, the merrier" around our house. every time we've gone to visit the in laws, we end up coming home w/ 4 or 5 new guns.
... and he was 'nice' enough to let me give my parents one of our .357 revolvers for Christmas.

I figured doing it at Koko Head would not be the best thing to do, so I set up a range day at Magnum. A couple other friends that knew him came along bringing guns and we dropped over $500 on ammo that day. She was one of his high school friends that came along...and she's accompanied me to nearly every range trip since then :)
She has a modded Ruger 10/22 from my little collection that will be transferred to her two weeks after she turns 21.

My ex-wife was interesting. Loved it when I brought home the shotgun and .357 because they were good home defense choices. They never got used except at the range, of course. Most of us are lucky enough that home defense shooting is never needed.
When I wanted to buy a rifle and start hunting, though, she put her foot down and told me she would never eat the meat. I thought it was a good idea since eating happens a lot more than shooting burglars and she was not a vegetarian. She'd tell me how hunting was cruel while munching down a hamburger and wearing one of her 6 pairs of fashion leather boots. Oooookay.
Glad she's my EX-wife.

she had some pretty strong anti-gun views but a trip to the range to play with the 9mm made her have a change of heart went through a whole box and she left with a big smile.

My wife likes guns, she just doesnt like me spending money. She made me promise last year I wouldnt buy any more guns until the 2012, so I spent the year buying optics and accessories, reloading components etc. She's since learned she wont win at that game.

Loves it. Just bought her a Ruger SR22 to go with her heavy barrel 10/22.

Loves me, came from one up country family dat had guns around.... good scenario....
Now we have access to a good private shooting area... damn! She's a good shot!
Wifey can and did fire 10-22, ar15, 30-30, and 12 gauge with 7-1/2 bird shot.... nice...
Loves .22's and so do I... She is very accurate.... been making her do walking shots to randomley placed targets with a 10-22 w/ red dot scope.... s h i t she's pretty good... dont come home from the bars too late any more.... jeez.
