Pretty good article. But.....
Different brand of brass would yield much different observations.
Starline brass is soft, compared to others.
Different bullet would change results.
Lubrication would change results.

Green tea. . .

And to answer your question. . .

1) You can reload a .45 ACP case (n-1) times where n is the number of times the case is fired when it fails.
2) Or until a brass scavenger picks up your .45 ACP brass while you're not looking.

 ;D :P

Although I bought a lot of Starline brass for .357 mag. , I've been using Rem. cases.  Thought that Starline made better brass based on reviews.

I like green tea. I like it hot, no cream, no sugar. But dark roast coffee, black is my fav!!!

I was shooting on the silhouette side for the first time about 6 or 7 years ago. I was by myself and shooting my Glock. I would shoot like 100 rounds and pick up like 10 cases. I did this a couple of times and then decided to shoot 10 rounds and pick them up. I did this the rest of the time I was there. Just as I was leaving I saw the old guy who waits around to sweep up your brass when you are not looking. I thought about saying something but I thought if he wants it that bad he can have it. But why didn't he just ask people if they want to keep their brass? I have not seen him around for quite a few years now. I think I remember seeing him digging up lead over on the rifle and pistol ranges way back when.

I like my coffee like I like my women, dark and bitter. (yes, I've told my wife this joke)

I know one guy who used to do that all the time. But he found a better supply of lead so he doesn't have to dig any more.

People put cream and sugar in green tea?   :o

Sometimes I keep my brass, sometimes not.  When I sweep up, I'm always wary of other people's brass.  Particularly when I see .45 ACP brass in there.  I always try to check with the person I know, or at least suspect, it shooting it and almost always the .45 ACP shooters are saving their brass.  If people come by and ask if I am keeping my brass, I usually just let them have it.  If I have a brass net on that day, I'll usually take the brass home with me.  I have so much 9 mm brass right now that lately I've been collecting it and giving it to some friends that shoot IPSC/USPSA.

I recall seeing the range scavengers.  A few times, they started picking up stuff in the shooting bay while we were still cleaning up!  Someone politely asked them to let us have a first go at pick up brass and stuff and they left quietly and went to scavenge in the neighboring bay.

every once in a while, we see someone digging in the berms in the other areas of the range when we stay late cleaning up after a range day

I used to dig for lead, it was easy, fun and cheap.
Must be pake.

Tight chamber dimensions increases brass life too.
Lube helps to prevent the belted Magnum effect.
