It's basically impossible to shoot out a 22 barrel, because the pressure is so low.  I think 5.56 is similarly easy on throats, but I could be wrong on that.  I know that throat erosion is a much bigger problem with larger calibers using more powder to push velocity higher.  I think in order to really notice the early stages, you'd have to be shooting off a bench pretty regularly and measuring your groups to a fraction of an inch, like competition benchrest shooters do.  If you're just shooting it off the bench to check zero, or eyeballing the group against the MOA grid, you're probably not going to notice a difference for quite a while.

Throat erosion in something like a .243 (.308 case necked down to .243) can start to affect accuracy fairly quickly, but it all depends on how hot your loads are, how hot you let the barrel get while shooting, quality of the barrel steel, etc, etc, etc.

I put 30,000 rounds through my Ruger Service Six. It doesn't shoot as straight as it used to. The forcing cone is eroded and there is flame cutting above the flash gap on the frame. I'll get around to sending it back to Ruger one day to get a new barrel.

For .223 I go to about 3k before rebarreling.  The throat will wear faster than a .22LR barrel.

True.  I didn't mean to imply that barrels don't wear on 5.56, just that they go a lot higher before they're shot up.

"Wore out" the barrel of a Smith Model 19 in the sense that the forcing cone split after an unknown large number of full-house .357s through it. Known problem with Smith 19s, though.  I did not know about that at the time.

Practiced with 50rd just about every day when I was shooting Metallic Silhouette matches with it.  Recently replaced 6" bbl with a four-incher:

I have an m1917 with a barrel from 1918.  Still shoots some amazing groups, if you ignore the flyers.  Not shabby for a .30-06 that is NINETY-FOUR years old!  Shoot out a barrel?  Pah.  Not even possible.

I would imagine a smooth bore shotgun barrel would last forever.

I have a Marlin/Glenfield Model 60 that I have had since mid 80's. I would guess there is about 15k rounds through it. I have put at least 2k through it in the last year. Lead bullets at low velocities plus habitual cleaning means the barrel will probably not wear out in my lifetime. It still shoots very small groups at 50 and 100 yds with CCI Blazer (cheap) ammo. I have not replaced any springs but I did a "trigger" job on it which included cutting one loop off the hammer spring and since doing that it will occasionally give me a light hit with a failure to ignite. I will replace the spring one of these days.

I also have a Gen 1 Glock 17 which I would guess has about about 5k-7k rounds through it. Maybe more, I am not sure. The lock up is as tight as when new. I have had to replace the return spring in it. I have not noticed a decline in accuracy. Though I really have not checked it lately. I have shot mostly military 124gr ball ammo out of it.

Good question, Ive sold a lot of stuff and rebarreled a few already, probably highest round count is my 228 that I just bought but I have no way to guage the round count.  Sending it off to US Anodizing this week, in a month or so it should look real nice...
