Title: What's Up with the HRA?!?!?!?!?!?
Post by: Inspector on February 14, 2012, 12:15:16 PM
Normally I don't write bad things about people or organizations (Except maybe Obama and Brady LOL!), but now I have to complain about the HRA.

Back in mid December I received a renewal notice from them and sent them a check which included extra money for a t-shirt. To this day my check has not cleared. So I want to know if I should put a stop on it. So in January I wrote an e-mail to the Treasurer. I have not received an answer to this day. In late January I wrote to the President of the HRA. To this day I have not received an answer. So in the last newsletter I recieved there is an e-mail address and phone number to call for membership issues. So I wrote to the e-mail address. I have not recieved an answer. So last week I called the phone number. I have yet to received a call back.

If someone would reply to me and tell me they never received my check, I will be happy to send a new check and place a stop on the old check. Or if they have it and are waiting to cash it for some reason I would appreciate it if they would let me know. But no one will return my inquiries. I am rather taken aback by their lack of communication that I am considering putting a stop on the check anyway and calling it quits with them.

Also, I am thinking about letting them know what I think of their ignoring me when I see them at the gun show in March.

Sorry about the rant. I just had to tell someone.

Watch out...the President might write a letter that accuses you of lying and that their staff are all volunteers and did nothing wrong and that you made a mistake somewhere, etc etc. j/k j/k.

I would be disheartened too, but I'm sure they are busy for some reason. Hopefully the issue gets resolved here, as posting this was probably your last ditch effort.

Which reminds me...I should join too O_o

I apologize for the problems. As an all volunteer organization, we try our best to keep on top of things. But, as is evidenced in your case, we obviously dropped the ball. Why don't you PM me with the particulars of your situation and I will make sure we get this taken care of for you.

Yeah, with the legislative session in full swing, those of us that try to actually get tot the hearings and also try to maintain the day-to-day responsibilities of running the organization can get a bit busy. I spend about 20+ hours a week trying to be an advocate for all of Hawaii's shooters......thanks for the support.

Thanks for reminding me. I sent them a check for $100 in mid-December that hasn't cleared too.

Don't ask me why but I had a strange feeling they got the check and didn't deposit it for some unknown reason. I think this just reinforces that my feeling is correct.

I don't know much about the HRA, but I have a feeling that it runs like a lot of other gun organizations I've been around; a tiny handful of dedicated people work their tails off, and a dozen or so fair-weather volunteers may or may not pitch in when asked.  Basically, in the modern era where anyone can publish a fully polished and shiny website, get cool T-shirts custom made, etc, it's easy to forget that sometimes these organizations essentially boil down to a couple of guys who meet in someone's living room once or twice a month, wife's mood permitting.  They're not big corporations with full-time employees like the Brady Campaign.  We've got a small gun community out here, let's make sure we all stay friends!

Same issue here, the check I sent in mid Dec is still uncleared, no t-shirts received.  I'm patient, as long as it wasn't lost.

HiCarry, in case you feel unappreciated, thanks for all you do for the community. I am truly amazed by how much you do.

+1

While it is truly sad that someone has to post disgruntled sentiment on a forum to be taken care of, it is commendable that "Hicarry" took it upon himself to rectify these situations without any responsibility to do so.

There's at least 1 person in the HRA that isn't too high makamaka to help people.
Kudos

An entirely correct assessment....we are grateful to our members that step up and devote so much of their free time to help. You are correct in that it is generally a few dedicated individuals who do the bulk of the work, and without them we'd be lost. Each one of them are committed to pushing our agenda and serving our members. There is not a selfish or arogant bone in them. So, thank you (and everyone else) who have had difficulties. We appreciate your patience and understanding. We are moving toward a different (and better) system of tracking membership and payments, so hopefully this will alleviate some of the problems. But until then, if you have any problems, please feel free to PM me and I will look into it. Mahalo!

PM me your specifics and I will look into it. We got a little backed up over the holidays but stuff is being processed and sent out. Sorry for the delay.

Thank you. But, it is not just me. Without the help and dedication of the many "behind the scenes" members, I couldn't do any of it.

While I appreciate your compliments, and agree that folks should not have to air their problems in this particular forum in order to rectify them, I must take exception to the inferrence made. I know of no one in the organization that regularly helps keep things going that isn't willing, or "isn't too high makamaka to help people."

I understand you had some difficulties recently, and I am not going to open up the whole issue for discussion again, but your efforts to continue painting the entire organization (or most of it) in a bad light due to that interaction is childish, counter-productive and not in the best interest of anyone.

If you truely believe there are significant problems with the organization, jump in an help fix it. We can always use the help.

Aloha

If you go to the Gun Show often enough, you'll see Mostly the Same HRA/LIFE members manning the tables.

NEW, young Energetic blood is always welcome.

Personally, I'm very Surprised that HiCarry has the time and energy to do the things he does for the shooting community

AND his Real Paying job.

Considering the number of gun owners in Hawaii vs the number of ACTIVE HRA members, I'm surprised the 2A people has lasted this long.

Especially when compared to the Anti 2A Coalition and their funding.

Says a lot about Quiet and Effective in Blocking and Defeating Anti 2A bills.

I want to update everyone on what has been going on behind the scenes.

HiCarry and I have been messaging each other and unfortunately they never received my check or my renewal notice. He has graciously offered to rectify this situation and I am happy he has done this. I am sure I will be sending them a replacement check this weekend.

Thanks HiCarry. I appreciate the prompt and professional responses.

Hicarry, I'm glad you're a shining light in the HRA.

My experience so far with the organization hasn't been positive.

Thanks for the invitation but I respectfully pass.

You do seem like a genuinely good guy, though.
