I wanted to post this in "General Discussion", but...
Looks like maybe a miss by 2-3"... she's smiling and laughing about it. Okay...
Video of her shot and near simultaneous return shot at the site: http://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-middle-east-40430552/female-kurdish-sniper-cheats-death-at-hands-of-is
Female Kurdish sniper cheats death at hands of IS
A Kurdish YPJ (Women's Protection Unit) sniper was filmed reacting after a bullet fired by an Islamic State (IS) group opponent narrowly missed her head.
The video was filmed in the IS "capital" of Raqqa as Kurdish and Syrian forces, backed by a US-led coalition, seek to force IS out.
The young woman is filmed laughing and exclaiming after her brush with death.
She then tells the men with her to stop filming, saying: "Enough, enough filming."

I assume they both missed? Not very good snipers are they? Snipers rarely get a second chance. I am surprised she didn't decide to move immediately after being shot at.
-
I saw that video on FB. I figured her initial reaction was one of not realizing exactly what just happened. :o

That was my impression. I don't think she understood what happened until someone told her.
Firing a rifle without wearing ear protection should have messed up her hearing enough to not hear the round hit behind her head. She even looked confused when she saw the pieces of wall falling in front of her.

Something didn't seem quite right, because she almost stood up to look over the exact same spot of the wall... maybe some kind of "shock" due to a close call where laughter is the "discharge"...

A sniper by definition is merely someone that shoots from a covered concealed location

Google gave me this definition:
"a person who shoots from a hiding place, especially accurately and at long range."
"Especially accurately" is not in the cards for either of those snipers.

Oh yeah, accurately to

Doesn't look like she takes the finality of things too seriously. Don't know the lay down from the short clip but obviously her position has been compromised and she may want to consider getting her laughing ass out of there before the opposition decides to send in something a little heavier.
-
So who was Allah helping, the Kurdish fighter or the IS fighter?
-
that wahine had her entire 24" of barrel saying "looky here" sticking out of the window.

Only the liberal "news" thinks any rifle with a scope is a "sniper" rifle.
From what I have heard on the accuracy of the AK series, that scope is about as useful as it is on a Mini-14. I'd say she is a plinker more that a one shot one kill type shooter.

I read the same thing about the AK series. I have an AR in 5.56 with Noveske upper that is super accurate with my reloads. I wanted to pick up an AK series because I wanted a a light carbine/cartridge combination that shoots a heavier projectile and is good out to 200 yards. But I never picked up an AK due to the accuracy not being what I want from that type of rifle. So when the 300 Blackout cartridge came about with similar ballistics I went ahead and built an AR for that cartridge and I am very happy with the accuracy I am getting from it. And the selection of bullets and powders I can get to produce the ballistics I want is very good. So I am happy with my choices.
It is hard for me to believe this video is a real sniper video. First thing she does is stick her tongue out and smile/laugh at the situation. A real sniper would have moved immediately from her position. My guess is she is just a regular soldier that found a good place to shoot from.

Well, if you say that's what a real sniper would do, I guess you must know. Totally serious question- do you have combat experience?
-
Don't confuse "sniper" with "trained sniper".
-
she's cute

I have no combat experience. I only know what I have read. If what I read was wrong then I am wrong. If it is right then....
I just assumed that since what I read was written by someone who was a sniper that what I was reading is correct.

A sniper shoots from concealment as they are easily overwhelmed by a superior force. If the "hide" is compromised, GTFO fast. The next incoming round may be an RPG or tank main gun.

In a nutshell, and not in those exact words, that is what I have read. Especially if there is a price on the sniper's head.

she's cute
i was waiting to see how long it would take someone to say that
i agree

I'll bet she hasn't had a shower in a few days/week.
Still cute? :-\ :-\ :-\

of course! Showers are easily had. Ugliness not so.
She's likely a designated marksman - not Hathcock type sniper as the stupid media labeled her as.

Definitely.
Heck, I haven't had a shower in a few days. :D
Sniper-wise, I have no combat experience other than paintball and nerf guns, but I would bet the bright blue head scarf didn't help.

A little bit on her rifle, it's a Designated Marksman rifle vs. Sniper rifle it chambered in 7.62x54r : http://www.designatedmarksman.net/iraq_alkadesiah.html
To the comments about the accuracy of the "AK" style DM rifles: https://youtu.be/zPc-i87jio8 the vid is from two years ago and Molot is now under sanctions and its products are not currently importable presently.

I wonder how many soldiers survive such a thing but just don't know if because there is no wall next to them to show how close it was.
Gotta say, she needs to work on her sniper tactics. The gun is sticking way out it appears and she is wearing a blue hat!

Your extensive military experience gives you this insight to comment?
I am impressed video games are that instructive.

I didn't know one needed military experience to figure out that a bright blue hat doesn't lend well to hiding.

Glad that someone posted the MAC and the Forgotten Weapons videos, but have you seen the InRange video of the SVD vs the WA2000?. PSL is basically a enlarged SVD/derivative which are generally intended as a designated marksman's rifle.
I noticed that most youtube comments are criticizing her terrible stance and recoil control and sticking the barrel out but I'd say in her defense that the ledge is really high and too awkward to gain recoil stability and resting the rifle more towards the muzzle would also be awkward on that very high ledge, and that it was probably the only place where she could see her target zone as a marksman otherwise she would've chosen a more suitable position.
Plus the rubber eyepiece of the scope is there for a reason.
