Title: IPSC Targets at Rifle Range?
Post by: buckjay on February 18, 2012, 12:28:13 AM
Just want to make sure before I buy them - are IPSC targets allowed at koko head rifle range? I know they don't allow human silhouette but wanted to check about IPSC.

Thanks

I don't see why not... But then again they have that dumb 10 round rule, so you might want to give them a call...

I think that IPSC targets are too human-like to be allowed, unless you are shooting at one of the action bays while it is being used by an IPSC-related club.

Anyone have first hand experience? I've been meaning to ask the RO each time I go, but always forget until I'm halfway home. Have an eye on a IPSC plate and wanted to check before I dropped the dosh.  :shake:

I've asked and it is a negative. If you have cardboard, just tear the head off.
It's a silhouette.

Even on the action bays we had to remove the tops of the cardboard so it looked less human like prior to throwing away in the trash.

But, but, you could use these, couldn't you?  These aren't human beans, they're just animals...

And this one's only a knife target, not a GUU-UHN target... you could use this, no...?

I'm amused by the fact that we're tounting firearms as probably the most effect self-defense instrument in the hands of the elderly, ladies, etc, but they won't allow folks to practice the necessary skills.

Dum.

I'm not signing this one so nobody will know who posted it.

I have targets with Barney the Purple Dinosaur on them. Do you think they would allow me to shoot Barney?

I was an adult when Barney became popular and he was very much hated by most everyone. Someone printed and sold these targets mail order through the gun magazines. Back then it was popular and not PC to make up targets of people and things you hate and take them to the range and shoot them. Someone had a service whereby you sent them your ex-wife's picture and they sent you back the targets with her face on them. Ahhhhhh the good ole days!!!

Has anyone ever asked for a written reasoning behind the ban on human-like targets?  I'd be interested in their response, since it is rather obvious that it is just more sub rosa anti-RKBA crap.

I quote myself:

What a drag, how can you practice head shots like that?

I've asked and it is a negative. If you have cardboard, just tear the head off.
It's a silhouette.

I was thinking of suggesting this as an accceptable target...

But it's a nude, so they'd probably reject it anyhow.

("Standing Nude" by Picasso)

I was also thinking of "pushing the envelope" with respect to the definitions of "Human-Like Targets."  Like the one about "no ears."  So how about...

... Vincent, of course.
