Post by: 308gunner on August 17, 2017, 02:41:11 PM
Harvested a nice fat sow with my nephew (Hi-Vis shirt) for make Kalua Pig.  She weighed at 115 lbs dressed. Head shot so no meat damage.  No not hapai... No I not sleeping!    :-[   :shaka:

Nice

I usually make a batch of kalua pig each Christmas in my dad's kamado.  Makes me want to move that timetable up a little bit.

Head shot?  Same .308 load as before?

Yes same factory load.  Federal Trophy Bonded Tip 165 gr.  Good enough accurate for me.

Cool!

I always joke with a couple of buddies.  I would love to go hunting, but I would need them to help me with everything after the shooting of the animal.  One good friend does smoked meat and occasionally still does the pit method for kalua.  Another good friend, his uncle has a nice ranch property on the BI.  I think in or around Waimea.  He and his ranch hands often invite us to come out, camp and shoot some game and they'll show us everything.  I'll have to take them up on that one of these days.
