I saw a guy completely miss a 2'x3' target at about 20' with a shotgun. Not once, not twice...but with every single round in his pump (5?)
My friend looks at me and asks "Did you see that?"
I say "Maybe he was shooting at another target"
My friend "I thought that too and watched the #2 target and only the # 2 shooter was hitting it"
The guy packed up and left....never saw him again.
When we were shooting the breeze earlier, I thought he was "experienced". (Shot a 45 cal pistol and would bring his friends to the range)
He was a lousy shot but actually a pretty nice guy. Poor guy, I felt bad for him.
I've thought of pranking my friends by giving them "blank" shot shells but that would be too cruel. Maybe I should invite my boss.

When I see instances of that I try to help them out a bit with what I know.
There was a shooter that showed up at Puuloa at the 200 yard line with no rear sight - I couldn't do anything about that.

Some guys were shooting slugs at 50y. I go to retrieve my target and sure enough they blew a hole in my stand. Mind you I was 2 benches over WTF!!!!
-
B- I think there was more than 1 guy who tagged your target frame that day!

There was but at least the other shot hit cardboard. Amatuers......

that's kinda hilarious. you'd be plinking with 22s, and some guy blasts your target with a 12ga slug oopsie!

I thought only supposed to shoot slugs at 100

Some newb shooters shoot at my target a few times. I'd appreciate an apology.

Lesson learned, only shoot 22s at 100y. Way more fun anyways.

Come on Ren - you must have watched stars wars....he was a Jedi and using the force :-)
How long did he stay before giving up?
B - maybe it was the same guy I saw. I should have checked target #3 instead of #2
-
Shooting someone else's target - I've almost done that
My friend's target stand is identical to mine and we use the same shoot n see targets
I should mess with him and shoot some "flyers" on his target
-
Hell , I also completely missed the target at 25 yards and thats with 30 rounds.
Nonetheless, only a few holes on paper....after the first 3 rounds most just went over the bern.
-
D - sighting in a new pistol at 25 yards can be a pain without a laser bore sighter.
I suck at pistols too. My friend wasn't real happy with what I did to his target frames. I've never gone back to the pistol range.
Hey - At least I hit the frames.....and it was 25 yards not 20 ft

You should try semi-auto or maybe single shot sometime.

You are right!!!! .... I should.

From what I've seen, extremely bad shots were caused by either not understanding sight alignment or how to look through a scope which they usually shoot way high, or flinch which they shoot way low. Other times it's eye dominance issues.

For pistols and rifles that I can't bore sight and can't hit paper, I'll aim at a clump of dirt or grass on the backstop and have another person spot it for me. Then adjust and I'll at least be on paper from there.

If you know the gun is sighted in correctly, try shooting the metal target side. That way you get easy confirmation if you're hitting or not, and can adjust your shot accordingly if you're missing
i've had trouble sighting in an adjustable sight pistol before when I replaced the factory sight. Part of my problem was adjusting the sight the wrong way the entire time :o Like the sights were SUPER off. I've aimed at the left, bullseye, top, right, bottom frame and still end up with 0 on the paper. I dont think I was shooting anyone else's target (no one else next to me), but who knows? lol
Also IMO 25 yards is pretty damned far for pistols for a beginner, and only adds to the frustration. If you're not comfortable with the pistol yet, if you're not sighting in correctly, you can easily be shooting over or under the target with every shot. It's really too bad that kokohead doesn't have an option for closer range shooting on the target side. They could create a closer berm on one side, maybe for 4-6 slots or so to shoot at 10-15 yards.

I have a friend who is a great shot with his 1911. Even with his other semi's he is a great shot. I don't remember everything he has. But he could hardly hit within his target frame with his revolver. At first it was so bad that I honestly thought it was his gun and/or ammo that was having a problem as he is such a great shot. One day he asked me to try his revolver so I could figure out what was wrong with it. I picked it up and it was sweet! I fired it several times and I offered to buy it from him right then and there. There was nothing wrong with the gun. His grip and trigger work was all wrong. Meant for a semi auto. I worked with him a little then asked Slick to help him out. Since then he has purchased several more revolvers and I believe that is all he shoots now.
Name has been changed to protect the innocent.

Well, you could point him downrange, likely needed at least that.
-
Or given him a stick of gum to chew and make a rear sight

all he wanted was a selfie for Facebook. True story

There were several guys shooting but the guy that I "think" shot my target was very recoil sensitive. His friends were laughing at him as he flinched severely when the gun was unloaded. Ah it happens.
I shoot in a few online matches, I would've been pissed if it happened to a target that I was shooting for record. It wasn't

R - so he took a few shots, took a selfie and was done?
B - sounds like fun. Do you have a link to the on line competitions you compete in?
What do you use...22lr cz?

I dont do to well with a post card at 25yds with the ole VP. 2 seconds later, tried a glock and put rounds in the same hole on the post card..."its a clue".

I thought about all the folks I've known and taught over the years.
The worst pistol shooter I could think of was me.
...
When I first started shooting, the range was where the shotgun range is today.
The target frame was made of welded rebar. You just needed to bring a stiff piece of cardboard.
I would routinely hit the rebar.
My cardboard looked worse than buckshot.
It took about 6 months to figure out why I was so bad.
This is why I have that standing invitation for anyone who needs or wants basic marksmanship coaching.
True story.

At least your cardboard wasn't immaculate after putting a box of 50 downrange. Lol

"politician bullets"
They inflict damage on everything except their intended target.
