Aloha all!
A few years back at the gun show I picked up...something. It looked for all the world like very coarse steel wool, like a Scotch-Brite scouring pad. But it was soft, and didn't harm finishes. I used it, liked it, and at the next gun show, bought several more. Now, years later, they're all gone, and I can't for the life of me find the product again.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about? If I just had a name, I'm sure I could find it online. However, searching for "not steel wool" and the like hasn't worked.

You sure not 0000 steel or brass wool?
They have those stovetop scribbles at hardware stores that are pretty soft too, but I think 0000 is better

Got this from appliance parts company. Less than 2 bucks I think.
Non metallic

I've bought similar stainless steel wool from chinatown for about a buck a piece. Works just as good as the gunshop ones, but costs $4 less.
-
If the company's website is to be believed, this stuff is an alloy that's much softer than stainless steel wool. Those of you endorsing the Chinese scouring pads, are you saying they are safe on bluing? I know from past experience that the Big 45 product is.

See the stuff at Prime Sports, Young Guns and SEC. I bought some since it specifically states won't harm blueing and it didn't. Combined with a very light cleaning with Flitz and the results are

I just got one of these and used it on a Colt Python that had a bit of rust patches and pitting. It didn't harm any of the intact bluing and after using some Flitz the revolver's finish was smooth and shiny. Good stuff.
