My uncle found an abandoned 870 slug chucker in the woods on the mainland when he was hunting, and when he passed away nobody else wanted it because it was rusty and ugly so I took it for sentimental value. A few new parts and cerakote job later and it's looking good, but in my attempt to remove the mold stains from the furniture I sanded too much so the lines no longer match up.
Was looking at the Magpul SGA and M-LOK on ebay since it's lightweight and offers some adjustability, two things that should come in handy when introducing smaller framed people to bird shot although I'm not sure how it will work out in real life.
I saw the Orange version and thought it looks cool, but then again it's also the color for less-lethal. Anybody know what all the different LEOs use here? I don't see how it could be a problem even if I take it hunting, but maybe I'm not thinking of something and wanted to run it by you guys before smashing that Buy It Now button.

Good point. If I hate it there's always the rattle can.
Damn that couch looks awesome, but I'd never be relax there. On the plus side I'd save a lot of money on coffee.

I had a Chevy vega that color, orange.
Nobody made fun of it.
There was a '73 Z28 motor under the hood.
Holley 780, 12 bolt rear, TH400, dual turbo mufflers.
Built by Motion Performance in Baldwin, NY.
Those were the days.

To me "furniture" is/are the bits and pieces like butt plates, barrel bands, patch boxes, etc. that are not wood but are not part of the actual firearm.
So I don't know what you were sanding when you say, "... but in my attempt to remove the mold stains from the furniture I sanded too much so the lines no longer match up."
Did you mean "remove the corrosion" from the metal furniture?
I was also wondering if you could find a serial number. and how the bore looked.

Speaking of furniture, some guy used this fake gun made from table legs to commit an armed robbery.
-
I don't see there being any issues with orange, other than personal preferences, but that exists with everything.

I was thinking it was the wood because that's kind of like the couch that the metal relaxes in and contemplates it's evil plans. Could definitely be wrong about that. Wouldn't be the first time.
Thanks to the factory park job the SN cleaned up well enough to read after the bead blast and, interestingly enough, the cerakote made it stand out a bit more. As far as the bore there are a couple small rust-textured areas inside but closer to the muzzle and on the "ceiling" about 8 inches beyond where the paw goes. I asked the guy who did the kote job what he thought and after a good cleaning he also felt it was too minimal to make a difference, though I'll probably restrict this one to tactical/low-recoil stuff and save the turkey loads for it's bigger heavier sisters.
If my cousins saw it now they would probably be kicking themselves for leaving it in the garage, but then again they don't have to register stuff and live in a region with a brisk used market.

Went ahead and ordered it. Saved a few bucks over the other colors, too. Now it's time to shop for a matching outfit...

Apart from all the furniture and color metaphors, I was curious about the S/N in terms of registering it in Hawaii, so that part of it has been answered.
But I was also curious about any other information on where it was found and whether it had a round or an empty in the chamber, or whatever.
Kind of hard to just "lose" something as big as a shotgun, so "what's up wid dat?" Not impossible if it fell into deep snow or slid down a canyon or something like that, but that sure is curious.
Maybe it's just going to be a case of "if this old gun could talk," but the whole thing kind of piqued my curiosity.

I don't know about the details of how it was found and it's kinda difficult to ask my uncle now. Since it was a deer gun found in the woods and nothing bad came back with the serial number I'm going to think happy thoughts.

Holy eye bleach. I threw up a little in my mouth and will never see a Bond film the same again. :o ;D

Post some pics when you can.
Yeah. It would have been cool to get the story of the gun.
I've been in some thick wooded areas of WA and I can definitely see someone losing a shotgun in that stuff if you're not careful. Never thought about the "not happy thoughts" part, but you never know. :(
Just like my uncle who offered me a Vietnam 1911 bring back. I'm into history of the given firearm, but maybe I don't want to know and I don't have the heart to ask. It's kind of like how you don't (or I've been told you really shouldn't) ask someone who has been there, done that if they've killed someone in combat. If they choose to tell me the story, I'll surely listen, but I don't ask.

Yeah, I kinda figured that, but couldn't help asking. You never get a yes if you don't ask. (Same thing with girls, too.)
Motion seconded on pictures.
Motion seconded on Zardoz pic and James Bond movies, except I wonder what gun he's holding?

if you don't like the orange, you could always rit dye it. i've been experimenting with rit dying magpul mags and magpul furniture.
i've sucessfully used regular Rit Dye for dying a bunch of non-black magpul stuff:
FDE forend and SGA stock on my 870 => dark gray
FDE CTR => black
ODG M2 windowed PMAGs => black
ODG K2 grip => black
ODG PRS Gen 2 => black
i've also done the standard Sand M3 PMAGs to Pink.
Using Rit Dye is super easy and takes very little time/effort.

Can't believe so many people don't know about Zardoz! It's actually a pretty decent movie if you can get past the psychedelic set dressing.
It also has the best on-screen interpretation of what the #gunsense crowd imagines we do in our spare time.
