it gets even better, you are not allowed to "transfer ownership of a firearm" and you must "surrender the firearms and ammunition to the control of the chief of police"

FIRE MISSION!
this bill overrides the TRO system and at least in a TRO, you are able to transfer to someone else, or a gun store, or your lawyer

from HRA:
HB2024: GUN VIOLENCE PROTECTIVE ORDERS:
This bill would allow the government to confiscate your firearms without you committing any crime, it only takes the complaint of one person
against you saying that you might harm yourself or others. Takes away a basic Constitutional Right without due process.
WE STRONGLY OPPOSE THIS BILL. PLEASE SEND IN TESTIMONY

I opposed. Just had a friend check and the testimony window is closed.
Gotta jump on these quickly.

People can still submit testimony, it may or may not appear in time for the actual hearing, but the sooner the better for a more likely chance of inclusion. Do it now!

really?
the window is actually supposed to always be open, but after 2pm, they are considered late
was the number entered correctly?
I cannot check since I already testified

Buddy was able to submit testimony. He passed on to a few coworkers and while I was researching during lunch, I got four of my coworkers (who as firearms enthusiasts and who I did their affidavits) to submit opposition testimony as well.

I could support this if there were a hearing involved where one could contest claims but just unilaterally taking away guns is not going to fly.

Testimony re SB2046 (bumpstock, "modifications" ban bill) is posted: https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/Session2018/Testimony/SB2046_TESTIMONY_PSM_02-01-18_.PDF
Tabulation:
FOR 5 (five)
OPPOSED 104 (one hundred and four)
I haven't read all the comments (and even my quick tabulation looking through over 100 pages could be off by a couple), but the support is from HPD, Maui Prosecutor, Big Island Mayor Harry Kim, Americans for Democratic action and one individual.
Now let's see how the committee "translates" that public input into action.
I appreciate everyone who took the time to submit testimony to attempt to defensively defeat legislation to further restrict our rights.
Now, can we please take the same energy and attempt to use it to go on the offense and get the committee chairs to hear the bills to restore our rights (CCW shall issue, handgun mag limit change to 17, and end stun gun ban)? :shaka:
Edited to correct bill number... my bad... too many numbers swimming around... if there were only one or two bad ones maybe, maybe, I could keep them straight.

That's the testimony for SB2046.
Testimony for SB2024 is also up though.
Thanks Puna. :shaka:

Thanks for pointing out that significant error. I edited my post to correct that... just can't keep them all (unfortunately) straight! :shaka:

Hope you don't mind I quoted it and moved to the 2046 thread with the edit. :shaka:
Keep up the good work.

HB 2024 UPDATE:
2/1/2018 H The committee(s) on JUD recommend(s) that the measure be deferred.
https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/Session2018/Testimony/HB2024_TESTIMONY_JUD_02-01-18_.PDF
***On a side note, while sifting through the testimonies, its oddly hypocritical IMHO that the guy that appears to run that popular "Stolen Stuff Hawaii" Facebook Page was in SUPPORT of this measure. But to each their own I guess ...

He's a good guy, non partisan, and very common sense. My guess is, on the surface, the bill seems like a good idea, not understanding the implications of no due process.
His page is going to bring change to Hawaii, he has some great power there. If anyone here has Facebook, you should join that page and group, and help GENTLY steer the people in the right direction.
