If home I will go down to my "bunker" again (support structure at the base of the house, 1 foot thick concrete walls but only ~100 sqft).
I will tell less people I have food and water storage because several immediately thought of heading to my house when they got the alert.

I added chairs to my "bunker."  During the alert down there, I realized I had nothing practical to sit on
I added extra 50 gallon rainwater collector (up to 185 gallon emergency storage and will keep expanding)
I upgraded my lifestraws to Sawyer filters (probably better for getting leptospirosis out of creek water)
I have ~300 servings of freeze dried food. havent had a chance to add to that yet.
added a few more flashlights

I want to add a Chinook medical kit when I get the chance.  Everything molds at my house so I need to figure out a better anti-mold long term storage for stuff like that

Unless one has the funds to build a nuclear bomb fallout shelter, there is nothing really anyone can do.  It has already been reported that Hawaii's so-called missile defense is currently not and might never be up for the job.

If Hawaii is attacked with nuclear missiles, I hope its from the DPRK, since their missiles are less sophisticated than those countries that already possess nuclear weapons and with luck those who have prepared adequately can survive the zombie hoards who did not prepare, until help comes from FEMA or whoever.

If Hawaii is attacked by Russia or China, game over.

Meh. Continue to live and enjoy my life.

Personally, I don’t think NK is suicidal. Nor any other country. To strike US first ensures their absolute destruction.  It would be different if it were an escalation of a war, but not out of the blue.

A rouge element of any of the nuclear powers is a more probable scenario. Like from the movie Crimson Tide. JMO.

I have my preps for other natural disaster type stuff. If a nuke hits and I’m not vaporized or a shadow on a wall, I just gotta find shelter if I’m out of the house or bunker down if at home and best figure it out with what I got. I’m more concerned about my family, particularly my dad.

I figured out which room of my house would be best to survive a blast.

We just stood around watching the warning message scroll across the TV screen wondering why they didn't interrupt the basketball game already in progress and why were the air raid sirens silent. Later, I read about how people were huddled in their bathtubs so maybe we'll do that next time, I guess.

There was one story about a family who got their small children awake and dressed, gathered all the supplies they needed for two days (didn't sound like they prepared for this), and sat in a closed shipping container outside their house until they got the all clear. First of all, how the fuck did they do all that before a missile could arrive and how are they supposed to stay in a closed metal container in the sun with no ventilation and maybe a bucket to shit in for two days?

I wonder if CPS is going to visit the guy who put their small child in the storm drain?

I bought more cases of water.

And I'm thinking of buying ammo for guns I don't have to use as barter (.22, 45, 308, etc...).

*info added about ammo.

I live in town. Less than 2 miles from the capital. My family lives approx 4 miles from the capital. My best friends live in kakaako apartments (the new ones) and in makiki/ keeamoku apartments. Im fucked no matter what. Can we really do anything? If the immediate blast doesnt kill any/ most of us. Theres always radiation. A steel container wont help. Streams/ wildlife will be exposed to it as well.

I actually called out sick that day when the false alarm hit. Woke me up. Then i went back sleep. Several of my friends and family called then i finally woke up for good. Didnt hear the obnoxiously loud sirens so i ate my ramen 😁. Called my work place to see whats up and nada. I work for the governement so i can get inside scoops. My friends and family have their ties with the sheriffs dept., navy, hpd, dnlr, and circuit court. Nada.

I believe i read a forum here or the internet that if a blast happens several hundres feet above the ground then the radiation will spread further across the land. Unless you live HK, kailua, waipahu or further out north, theres really nothing we can do. Radiation lasts for decades, not just a week let alone a couple days. Good luck to everyone though if one day it does happen.

Edit: forgot to mention i heard almost if not all my neighbors starting their cars to maybe flee. I then thought bout that too ...but ....then i REALLY THOUGHT about TRAFFIC!!! fuck that. Ill just maybe die in my house than on the road if it was real lol.

Just my thoughts given where i live and not knowing much people on the other side of the isle. Plus its a hawaii alert, not a honolulu alert. IIRC. For all we know it may have hit kahoolawe or the northern reefs. We dont know haha.

Not quite.  Nuclear bombs are set to detonate some distance above the ground (called an "air burst") because that inflicts maximum damage on ground structures. If you detonate it at ground level, a lot of the energy goes into carving a crater instead of knocking over buildings and setting things on fire.  We are detonating a nuke for its destructive shockwave and heat/fire, not the radiation.

Radiation is a by-product of a nuclear explosion.  If we were using a nuke for its radiation effects, we'd be creating dirty bombs to spread radiation and leave the structures and infrastructure intact.  The Neutron Bomb was intended to do something like that.

Ah i see i see flap. Even more so, concreting my belief on the air burst thing. Knew i read that somewhere thanks.

But yeah, still im fucked haha. But i agree with an above poster, that any country willing to do that to any US territory or state would in fact sign their own headstone.

Who knows what will happen in the future. Sure its great to be prepared but i kinda want to live in the now and just enjoy what i can, with who i have, and yeahhhhhh.

On a side note: ive always had an ample supply of water, non perishable foods, soda🙃( dont judge me), ammo etc. Because thats my normal comsumption. Minus the ammo and stuff alike. And i always keep my gas tank half full or more. I learned that after we had rolling blackouts one night sometime in 2007- 2011. Had to drive with an eighth of a tank left and kept thinking to myself im fucked if my car dies out. Traffic was horrendous. Cant go gas station. And no food at home that night. All because of the rolling blackouts to preserve the waianae generators.

So far, the US is the only nation in history to use nuclear weapons against a foreign enemy.

We are working everyday to ensure that never changes.

I live in Hilo area. I wouldn't be in a big threat (if the missile were to be aimed at logistical assets) but either way there's always the fallout.
There are two abandoned concrete bomb shelters from WW2 right across my house and they're in bad shape. It's been covered in dirt, boulders, thick vines, and used to have big avocado trees growing around it, a ton of trash from homeless folks. Recently they cleared out most of the vegetation put a new door and a lock on it.
Considering that it's made of concrete, it might be safer than my own house if the county cleans the bunker out and does minimal restoration to it.

On the other hand, probably invest in more of those SOS food bars off amazon, K-iodine, hazmat suits I guess.

Not sure if this has been posted before but I found it really interesting: http://nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/?&kt=150&lat=22.0881391&lng=-159.3379818&hob_opt=1&hob_psi=5&hob_ft=5443&casualties=1&ff=50&zm=13

You can adjust the location, type of warhead, blast, and wind direction.

As mentioned before, this scenario did catch me off guard.
My only changes were to stock additional clothing at my BOL, (and a couple bottles of good booze), all else was good.
Reconsidered the option of going to BOL during "crazy''  :shake:  as my home location and BOL are both still "safe" with a 10.4 MT dropped on what I think would be the most  tactical target,  pearl and airport.and home is still stocked well.
