Did anyone else read this in this AM's paper.
This young lady, a junior at Punahou, noted for it's progressive tendencies will go far.
I see a career in Constitutional Law.
Hope all can access the link without being signed up with the Star Advertiser

Long article written by a Punahou junior class student also President of the Conservative Club, standard fare 2a arguments. Constitutional, tyranny, founding fathers, etc. Well written. I'll see if I can invite her to some 2a events. We need more people like this in the universities. A big stumbling block is they're not able to purchase firearms until their 21 so may lose interest in these issues in college.
She does go over the hypocracy of people that want the government to uphold constitutional rights but denounces the 2nd amendment.
"Congresswoman Maxine Waters recently claimed, “Congress has a constitutional responsibility” to impeach President Donald Trump. While this is debatable, she seems to believe that upholding the Second Amendment is less of a constitutional responsibility in comparison. It is contra- dictory to believe that some parts of the Constitution are more important than others in order to rationalize one’s political views.
Waters and those like her have a responsibility to the Constitution in its entirety, notably including “the right for the people to keep and bear Arms.” Disregarding the Second Amendment due to incompatibility not only threatens the very fabric of our nation but it also damaging to arguments that those on the Left would want to make about applying the Constitution elsewhere."

Thanks for the link.
It was a refreshing and great read, especially by a high school student from a progressive school.

I’ll have to read this article fully later. Punahou seems to be a breeding ground for Uber liberals. For highly educated individuals, many seem to have such blind hatred for 2a, Trump, etc. I have many close friends who are Punahou grads and some have the blind hate I mentioned above, spewing it all over social media. I generally ignore. One of my closest friends is a Punahou grad and pretty liberal and I will discuss to an extent, but usually from a neutral position. Once you approach from a position of “not in their side”, the conversation never seems to go well.

I sent the author an email to see if she wants bring her group out to the range. Let me know if you're interested in helping out. Can run the events like I did with the university groups.

Post here when and where and I’ll help. I’ll try to spread the word to other shooter friends who aren’t on here. At least a few are Punahou grads.

I can tell you for a fact that it's a problem on both sides of the aisle.

......
The reason for all the standard fare arguments is that there are only a finite number of truths.
Lies however, are limitless. They can be fabricated by anyone at any time as often as desired.
Let me know if you get something going. Maybe I can help.

Yeah. It’s when any party/group takes things to an extreme. Just right now, it’s the rabid liberals. Guess it’s wlasys been that way, but just now they are more vocal since the tide isn’t in their favor.

A lot of it is hate speech. When they talk about NRA being a terrorist organization and consevatives being stupid and in the next breath speak against hate you know the rational part of the brain has taken a back seat.
Meanwhile conditions continue to deteriorate outside the urban bubbles so they have no idea of the dangerous situation brewing around them. Human nature being what it is, taking away weapons makes people vulnerable not safer.
I'm glad the author stuck to constitutional issues and kept it civil though. We need more young people like her to be the voice of reason.

While political beliefs seem resolute on all sides, there is a double standard in regard to constitutionality. The people who cry for a ban on guns or a constitutional revision are often quick to reason that the Constitution is out of date and inapplicable to modern times. However, this group of people is the same group of individuals that accuse the president of constitutional violations, which implies that the Constitution is both valid and must be upheld. Congresswoman Maxine Waters recently claimed, “Congress has a constitutional responsibility” to impeach President Donald Trump. While this is debatable, she seems to believe that upholding the Second Amendment is less of a constitutional responsibility in comparison. It is contradictory to believe that some parts of the Constitution are more important than others in order to rationalize one’s political views. Waters and those like her have a responsibility to the Constitution in its entirety, notably including “the right for the people to keep and bear Arms.” Disregarding the Second Amendment due to incompatibility not only threatens the very fabric of our nation but it also damaging to arguments that those on the Left would want to make about applying the Constitution elsewhere.
This can be dangerous. Inversely, if President Trump is unimpeachable, then the Constitution is fallible?

Unfortunately I've been told that there is no longer a Conservative Club on campus as their only openly Republican advisor has left.

I'm down to help as well. Would be great to be able to use one of the shooting bays. If her club is interested perhaps LIFE would be willing to lend a portion of their fun shoot day to the group.

I’m a Punahou grad and would somewhat agree, but there are a few of us who are very pro 2a. My “conversations” with my close group of friends tend to get heated on the subject, however. “Blind hatred” would sum it up well.

Yeah. A couple of shooting buddies are Punahou grads and they have friends that occasionally shoot. All pro 2a to varying extents. However, just more that aren’t. At least those that I know. The groups aren’t mutual friends though and I met each through different ways. Just those that are anti-2a seem to be super vocal.

Is it anything like mainland universities where a core of far left instructors constantly brainwash students?
Had an English writing prof that developed a hatred for me after finding out I was a Viet Nam vet and not the slightest bit apologetic about it.

here's the article:
Risky revisionism of Second Amendment
Honolulu Star-Advertiser4 Feb 2018By Melissa Newsham
Melissa Newsham is a Punahou School student, class of 2019.
“Bowling for Columbine” documentary filmmaker Michael Moore and fellow anti-gun activists consider the constitutional right to bear arms “ancient and outdated.” The Second Amendment, which was implemented by the Founding Fathers as a tool to preserve the nation against tyranny, is under attack from those who believe that tyranny is no longer a legitimate concern. Many opponents of the Second Amendment consider it obsolete and irrelevant to today’s modern world — as if it is somehow only applicable to an uncivilized society. Historical context is vital when evaluating the Second Amendment and determining if it can or should be omitted or rewritten entirely. Within the past few decades, it is clear that what the Founding Fathers feared was neither fantasy nor paranoia and certainly not antiquated. Horrific dictators like Hitler, Mao Zedong and Stalin all implemented gun control laws or confiscated citizens’ weapons. The seizure of arms served a singular purpose: to solidify a government’s power over its citizens. It is clear that governments wanted to substantially weaken dissent, as Mao Zedong once explained, “All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The Communist Party must command all the guns, that way, no guns can ever be used to command the party.”
Although the United States federal government and those who favor stricter gun control laws are not equivalent to the regimes that committed unforgivable crimes, it is reprehensible that they similarly want to deny citizens their rights. Nobody really ever anticipates tyranny. It often comes without people noticing until it’s already too late. While the removal or revision of the Second Amendment may not signal that tyranny is imminent, it certainly would indicate a fundamental shift in the relationship between the government and its people. Ordinary citizens would be viewed as undeserving of trust, almost as if they were subjects of the ruling government. Many citizens would view the government with suspicion; this wariness is dangerous.
The Constitution either matters or it doesn’t. It isn’t a document that can be selectively applied to bolster the argument at hand. Those who argue for the removal of the Second Amendment must be comfortable with this applying to all parts of the Constitution. Being against revisionism does not mean being against productive policy discussions. Regardless, one must tread carefully when altering the Constitution. Refraining from revisionist solutions to the gun control debate may be a way to avoid making claims that are both historically and ideologically inconsistent.
