I know a crap load of folks on this website and there are a lot of names missing from LEGISLATIVE TESTIMONY.
Yeah. I'm calling out everybody. :wtf:
Don't make me name names.
P.S. Keep up the good work Zippz and PunaP and Change, and JHana etc.

In the last couple of weeks, I've been talking to fellow shooters about it. All but a couple have literally given up. They say things like "When was the last time testimony has changed anything", "Nothing is going to change", "It's Hawaii". They don't realize testimony is the beginning of the fight, not the knockout blow. I asked one of them what he has done to support the 2A movement locally and nationally in the last few years. His answer was pay his NRA dues. I've heard so many excuses. That may be so but they refuse to join their fellow 2a brothers in the fight. I told them they are problem. They are the reason Hawaii is what it is. They are the shooters that shoot regularly, are in the loop and know what is going on and still refuse to do a damn thing. If we can't get those involved, how will we ever get the guy that shoots twice a year involved?

on the plus side, I do recognize 1//4 to 1/3 of the names on the testimonies

Do they also look at what else you send testimony on? The one co-worker that I did convince to send testimony on was talking. We were wondering if they also look at what else you send testimony on. Say is you ONLY send on firearms related issues and not other issues.

They're not going to remember since there is a thousand bills with dozens of people testifying on each one and legislators sit on certain committees. They may remember well known people and organizations like the union reps, lobbyists, maybe HRA. If you visit the reps a lot, then maybe but even then it'd be difficult matching the face with the name on the paper. For regular folk it's no unless you stand out, like make death threats or talk about really bizarre stuff.

well, I submitted testimony but it only showed my first name. I registered with my full name. I opposed all the firearms bills that I could read or remember.

50,000 testimonies would not have changed these people's minds. They see the stuff on TV and if they don't support this then they are evil and do not care about the children or some other useless lie.

The 2015 stats for Hawaii population over 18 (eligible for long gun ownership) was 1,120,770. The reported rate of gun ownership in one "popular" research paper is 6.7% (I think that is likely very low compared to the reality, partly because Hawaii is ranked last, 50th at 6.7% and the 49th ranked, New Jersey, has an ownership rate of 12.3%, almost double Hawaii... a little hard to believe), which would calculate to over 75,000 gun owners. Add to that non-gun-owners who are sympathetic to the cause of Second Amendment-guaranteed rights, and the 112 testimonies submitted in our favor is a very paltry number indeed.
But I have no idea what can be done to get that 99.9985% of uninvolved gun owners involved. :grrr:

Unfortunately, they have a point.
People get tired of fighting the same fight year after year, and losing ground each time. At some point they'll get tired of beating their head against the wall and quit.
They come to realize that posting testimony and bringing lawsuits are actions of last resort. You've already lost, it's just a matter of degree.
Unless at some point you can show them a real, concrete chance of success, rather than "We'll have to fight the same fight, against the same legislation, written by the same people, next year." You're going to lose them. Even if you manage to "Defeat" a bad bill you haven't "Won". You've merely gained a temporary reprieve. Ten more bills will take its place next year, some will get through.
A great example of this is Trump getting elected president. When you ask people that voted for him their opinions of him you find that most will agree he's an a**hole { myself included }, but they were unified by the belief that he's "My A**hole". That he would upset the status quo. It gave them a light at the end of the tunnel to focus on.
If we want get more of the firearms community involved, this is what needs to be accomplished.
