Gonna cost me $600 for a broken driver window. Normally would be $300, but no one has an aftermarket window in stock. I can't wait 2 weeks for 1 to come in. So I have to go to the factory and pay double.
At least they HPD caught the guys.
There goes what ever I was going to buy at the gun show.

You should push the court to order restitution. If they don't, it's cheap to file a civil suit, and you can add that fee to the amount sued for.
If you show up at civil court, and he doesn't, you'll get a summary judgement. Then you have several options to get your money, including a lien on personal property and garnishing wages.
I get tired of seeing people who do nothing wrong suffering financial damages another person caused.

that's assuming the guy actually has a job or personal property, and isn't some crazed ice head. I suspect he's the latter.

What makes you think he's an ice head? I didn't read anything about the suspects in this thread except they (plural) were caught.

idk, the people who tend to resort to these types of petty crimes tend not to be the most upstanding citizens. Hopefully can get their money back though. Normally it would be through insurance if the deductible is low enough (with the owner eating the deductible loss). Total bullshit, I know.

All 6 were caught. but only 1 was the one who was inside my car. But all were crackhead looking so I won't count on getting any money back.
So kudos to HPD for catching all of them, especially after they ditched the damaged get away car.

You can sue naming all six as defendants. When the judge rules in your favor, the defendants should be held "jointly and severally liable" for the crime. That means you can be repaid by one, more than one, or all the defendants. For example, you can pick the one in the group with a job and recover 100% of the judgement from him. He can then go after the others to have them pay him for their share. I'd think out of the 6, at least one has assets or a bank account you can get paid from.
I wouldn't let them off the hook until all avenues have been investigated.

Thanks for that link, it does sound like a lot of work, that would cost me more time than my $600. I'm going to think about it and not make any rash decisions. The last portion does specifically state "it's a lot of work".

All depends on whether you get what you seek earlier or later in the process. You might get lucky if one of the perps agrees to pay restitution ordered by the criminal court.

unfortunately, getting a court ordered restitution is one thing, actually getting payment is another.
In an old job, I had the opportunity to see some court ordered restitutions and the amounts actually being paid monthly by people (some people actually pay). The ordered payment might be like $50,000 in damages, but all the person can "afford" to pay is $25/month. So full restitution would probably take around 150 years. lol At least for small amounts, chances are higher you'll get reimbursed in a somewhat reasonable timeframe.

IDK, but as they tried to flee, they tried to run my neighbor over & hit a pillar. So not sure if it's only a unlawful entry charge.

Sometimes I think it's just better to take everything that is valuable from my vehicle when I park it and leave the doors unlocked. Set up a hidden kill switch so that thieves can't start it.

I got a call from a Det. and he said for some reason, the guy who broke into my car, whom my neighbor ID'd at the time of being detained, they let him go. So he was not arrested at that time. So of the 6 that were caught, 2 were arrested. None was the guy who my neighbor saw inside of my car.
So this leads me to believe that the guy knows someone. The Det. didn't understand why that person wasn't arrested either.

Either that, or that guy talked the other two into taking the rap. Sometimes people commit crimes with juveniles, knowing the system won't treat them as harshly, and records are sealed when you turn 18. Of course, I have no idea how old those 2 are.
Maybe it's the first offense for the 2, so they can take the blame, protect the others, and only get probation?
Crooks that work together know how to game the system. Could be a number of reasons they were arrested and the others not.
All the Cops and prosecutors care about is closing the case and getting a prosecutorial "win."

In Hawaii you would have to be convicted of UEMV at least 10 times before you get to go to jail, at least from stories I read in the news media. Look at the guy who finally got a 5 year sentence. He was a “serial car thief” who asked the judge for another chance so he could continue his rehabilitation. LOL.

The regular misclassification of UEMV is infuriating. I caught a guy in my car red handed after it was stolen, pulled him out and pinned him down until the cops got there. He confessed and everything but they insisted on changing the paperwork to UEMV, my guess is because they want fake crime statistics to give the public the false impression that they are earning their tax dollars. The guy had lots of priors and but the prosecutors made us show up to court several times and gave us the run around about getting back some money for the damage. It was a total waste of time and eventually I just gave up.

So the prosecutors office will decline to file charges against the guy who my neighbor saw inside my car and getting out running away.
The reasoning, when he ID'd the guy in the line up, he also ID'd all 5 other guys in the line up as his 5 friends who were in the get away car. 1 guy in the line up was a HPD plant.
So not only did I lose money, but the criminal got away Scott free. Thank you justice system. This would make sense why HPD didn't arrest my criminal at the time. But the other 2 on unrelated charges.
I don't blame my neighbor at all because mistakes can happen as well as being all jacked up from adrenaline.
