Well the way THIS particular media wrote the story doesn't include the details that police are arriving on the scene of someone pointing a gun out of the hotel room into the hotel parking lot. Now if I was responding to a call like that it doesn't really seem like its out of line from the officer. Now in addition to that situation in the video the guy does reach for his waistband after precise instructions and consequences if done so... In which he did and paid dearly. I do understand some of those cop instructions were complicated but have you ever been nervous and couldn't articulate in a simple fashion what you wanted and in turn made it complicated. In the AAR A better instruction to TURN AROUND DONT LOOK BACK HANDS BEHIND YOUR HEAD AND SLOWLY WALK BACKWARDS SLOWLY DO NOT LOOK BACK would have been a more protocol command

All this report this and report that PSAs don't work all that great.
Years ago I had an elderly couple as a neighbor. The husband was not that "all there" and called the police on my residence for a "person with a knife".
My brother returned from a fishing trip and brought back a large marlin in a blue body bag; so of course he's in the patio with a knife breaking it down.
Two officers entered through our garage on the report and saw my brother holding the knife. Luckily his friend was with him holding his baby and said, "No, No officers we cutting up the marlin!"
I'm grateful that those 2 officers did not reach for their pistols and assessed the situation quickly.

Actually only LE and the criminals have guns in that cesspool of a city, and we need to give proper recognition to that fine upstanding mayor at the helm, Rahm Emanuel.

That a-hole wanted to waste somebody. Happens in war all the time, and that's the problem with this scenario. It's just like footage from our invasion of jihadistan only transposed onto main street USA but instead of terrorizing Hajis they are executing small business people by giving them impossible instructions to follow and waiting for them to screw up.
Cops are training like someone is fighting a war on them. There is no war on cops, but it's likely that communities will turn against them unless they get their pet psychos under control.

Wrong.
The proper procedure would have been to make the individual crawl towards the officer and away from the door.
The individual should have then reassumed the detaining position: face down, hands outstretched above head with fingers interlaced, feet crossed.
With propper back up in place, and once it is determined the individual is a safe distance from the door, the officer(s) then approach and finish detaining the individual, with 1-2 officers applying restraints, and remaining officers convering the door.
Once the individual is detained, officers finish clearing the hall and room, leaving enough support officers in the rear to maintain the detained individual, and cover the hall.
This is the basis for a basic felony apprehension, and all departments, whether military or civilian, receive training to properly deal with this type of situation. This cop should have been convicted.
