The money used to pay for these "studies" could be used to actually pay for school security.

These people need to be unelected.

This is great! Everyone should open each resolution and look at the authors. These are our allies, these are our foes.

I wonder if the people that sponsored the 2a repeal resolution know that the Hawaii constitution also has a 2nd amendment (Article 1 Section 17).

Disagree
They need to be unemployed for a while so they lose their armed security and have to find an apartment in the low rent district.
Maybe those apartments around the xring store.
Then those politicians will understand why the 2A is important.

They cite the Miller vs. US supreme court decision, but when you examine it the whole thing is very problematic. It actually got remanded back to the lower court but Miller was killed by then because he flipped on his fellow bank robbers and they retaliated. The case cited that there was no purpose of having a short barreled shotgun in the military, which obviously they didn't take into account trench fighting in WW1.
1934 was also a very interesting year for other reasons. John Dillinger/Bonne and Clyde were rampaging along with a whole bunch of others due to the ongoing depression/dust bowl destroying opportunities. Prohibition had just ended meaning a whole generation of organized crime was also out looking for "work" where they could find it. The events of the Bonus Army were still fresh in everyone's memory.
Oh yes, and FDR was passing critical elements of New Deal socialist policies in order to stave off a domestic communist revolution. Apparently a few years before then people had this strange idea that everyone could get rich forever by putting money in the stock market and flipping swampland in Florida. Turns out when unregulated capitalist greed runs it's course then people tend to get quite upset and start looking for alternatives that won't starve them and throw them in the street.
But yeah, if you're an upper class Supreme Court Justice and the poor people are going crazy then it would be tempting to accidentally infringe on some rights in the interest of self preservation.
Our legislators appear to be concerned about the consequences of the mess they have made as well.

I seriously doubt that our legislators have that much foresight
way more likely that they are just following the progressive agenda

It will be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to repeal the 2nd or any amendment. You need 2/3 of Congress and then 3/4 of the states to ratify it. Never happen in my lifetime, which is about 25more years if I’m lucky.

I would certainly like to believe that, but as we have seen time and time again, as of late, "they" seem to be doing what ever they want, regardless of their oaths or public input, on state and national levels alike.
-
You won’t get both 2/3 of Congress and 3/4 of the states to repeal the 2nd amendment no matter what the anti gunners do. The Founding Fathers made the repeal process extremely difficult.

These "resolutions" and all the other calls for repeal or amendment of the Second Amendment are just window dressing. They know that will never happen and it's just a minor distraction from the achievable goal of making the Second Amendment de facto less and less enforceable via federal and state laws that incrementally infringe on the rights outlined therein. After all, both the Constitution and the Hawaii Constitution declare that law-abiding citizens have the right to bear arms (note: neither document has the phrase "inside the home" following), and yet how many Hawaii citizens may lawfully bear arms outside their home for self-defense? That's right: zero. How many law-abiding Hawaii citizens/residents may be arrested, charged, convicted, fined and/or imprisoned for bearing arms outside the home for self-defense? That's right: every single one of them (us). There's no need to amend the constitutions. Smoke screen.

Most likely you are correct, and this is a retaliation against the Deplorables who busted their momentum. But seeing those homeless camps every day on their way to work is a sign that something is very wrong.

My college radicalized son thinks repealing the 2A is a possibility but I tell him it’s only possible if they start over again on Mars where they can declare the planet a gun free zone. They could make it their 1st amendment.
-
I'm going to print this nice and big and display it at the gun show. I'm hoping that it goes to committee today so I can add that on.
WHEREAS, in light of the numerous tragic mass shootings at schools, work places, and public events, this body believes that it is necessary to repeal or amend the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the United States Congress is requested to consider and discuss whether the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution should be repealed or amended to clarify that the right to bear arms is a collective, rather than individual, constitutional right;

Exactly! Our bipartisan system will continue to buck heads meanwhile our kids are at danger. BFL we need to protect our children right now!!

Got 2 resolutions up for PSM/JDC committee on 3-22-18,2pm rm 229. SR73 study on gun laws and SR75 urging Congress to fund study on firearms violence.

How can we use SR73 to our advantage? Get some good data to support us.
For SR73 suggest they add in the data for Hawaii CCW issuance to include LEOSA and compare it to CCW rates with the rest of the nation and defensive uses of firearms. Al;so effectiveness of the RAPBACK program.
-
Also 2 bills for the study of school security funding is tomorrow. Try and get it amended to include armed resource officers and include the armed school defense incident that happened recently: https://2ahawaii.com/index.php?topic=30630.msg273389#msg273389

I submitted my testimony for sr73 asking them to add CCW permitting, self defense uses, and RAPBACK status to their gun study bill. Hopefully get some good origin data from it for next years efforts.

Submitted similar testimony for SR73 and SR75.
-

You know zippz that no matter what "data" they might get, even miraculously or accidentally objectively researched data, that nothing will deter the long term agenda and they will proceed as planned.

Passed unanimously. With amendments. If it's like some other recently amended bills, we won't know what those amendments were for maybe a week... unless someone was there and can tell us.
I'd be willing to bet a LOT that they haven't amended it to include the statistics of how many officially disarmed Hawaii residents were crime victims outside their home and compare that to the percentage of CCW licensees in a variety of other states at least some of whom would have been able to defend themselves and prevent their own victimization.
SR73
