Hawaii legislators and law enforcement will use this as an example of how they are serving the public by preventing people from being fired for having CCW licenses... by not granting any. Public servants at their best, looking out for our welfare!

The law does allow us to have a firearm in the business as long as we get permission from the business first.

Yeah, but how are you going to get it to the business in your enclosed container (unloaded of course)? Unless that business is one of the ones that are on list of approved locations to which you may transport your firearm (range, gunsmith, FFL, gunshow, police department)... Otherwise you have to break the law to exercise your privilege they've granted you. See what they did there?

"...all firearms shall be confined to the possessor's place of business, residence, or sojourn; provided that it shall be lawful to carry unloaded firearms in an enclosed container from the place of purchase to the purchaser's place of business, residence, or sojourn, or between these places upon change of place of business, residence, or sojourn, or between these places.."
If I'm reading that wrong, I guess I'm going to jail soon as I'm going to admit right now that I carry daily at work and do not store the firearm at work.
-
^^^ I was thinking that also, just while in transit, it does have to be in an enclosed container. Once at your business, you can carry in any means.

I'd really, REALLY, R-E-A-L-L-Y like to not have to unload and case it going to and fro, and just keep it on my hip like a normal human being.
I don't blame puna for overestimating the ineptitude of our lawmakers. :)
In real life, introducing additional handling steps with the firearm is going to undoubtedly increase the likelihood of an accident by simple virtue of you touching the gun more often (especially since you need to unchamber that round).

So what if your place of business is a vehicle? Building inspector, mobile repair guy, mobile notary public, handyman... Lots of folks work out of their vehicles. Or better yet, live in their vehicle. It is their place of residence and sojurn.

If it were me, I'd still carry if I stayed in the same place for at least a few hours. Inspector, notary, or other things that are quick in-n-out (mmm burgers) would introduce the same problems of having to uncase-chamber-holster-unchamber-case and you'd have to have a safe place to do so. If you don't - you're breaking the law (one man's opinion and not legal advice :D).
I can't be the only guy with a clearing bucket of sand under his desk .

Instead of a bucket, just fill up a large cat liter box. Cuts down on the suspicious questions.

No. You misspoke/wrote. You do not violate any laws, especially firearms laws. You stand corrected.
So what if your place of business is a vehicle? Building inspector, mobile repair guy, mobile notary public, handyman... Lots of folks work out of their vehicles. Or better yet, live in their vehicle. It is their place of residence and sojurn.
Come on, you guys think "they" wrote those laws without the clear knowledge of exactly what acts would be criminal and for which they could arrest, prosecute, convict, fine and/or imprison violators? You really think they are going to interpret their intentionally draconian infringing laws in a manner that cuts slack to homeless people living in vehicles? You are engaging in criminal acts when you do anything other than exactly what is prescribed as "legal" in the laws as written. "If you don't like it, change it." Yeah, sure. In the meantime they will enforce their laws as arbitrarily and capriciously as they please. You just gotta hope you aren't the "example" they make of someone who is following one part of the law but required to break another part of the law in order to do so.
It's like in California there is an exception to the "no carry without a license" (and most of the highly populated coastal counties deny virtually all applicants) in the case of "imminent danger of grievous bodily injury or death". The only problem being that you can't legally have your firearm with you (outside your home) at any time prior to THAT EXACT MOMENT. Thus the "magically appearing firearm" has been made law in California. (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/images/smilies/facepalm.gif)

Plausible. No actual cats required. :geekdanc:

Could explain a sudden reduction in the cat population on the island. >:(

Myth Busters did a special on bullets and water. Even with a 50 cal, it only traveled 3 feet when shot into water. 30-06 was like < 2 feet.
So have a jug of water and say the waters for emergencies.
I was going to leave a mini safe in my desk drawer for when I leave to get lunch which is every day. This way, I don't have to unchamber as often. But the president of the company said no guns. So no matter.
Went to the dentist on Tuesday and felt very vulnerable while she's cleaning my teeth....

Yep, most ballistics labs now use water tanks for catching test rounds. Much easier to find the projectile, less chance of it being damaged hitting water, and it's just as safe as using other media to catch it, like sand.

how can i get a job like that?
how can i get a girlfriend with a job like that?

I was going to do this with the reloads I just did to see how bad (or not bad) the plating shears off while going down the barrel. If I shot the projectile into my sand bucket, the bullet would be destroyed (a friend might have already tested this one for me).
I think the kitty litter may work, but its much less dense so you'd need to have more wiggle room for penetration. Like a 5 gal bucket filled to the brim. I'd also not like to guinea pig that one :D
Edit: I do seem to have a knack for derailing threads, :stopjack:

My remembrance of the episode is that all of the projectiles turned to small fragments except for the shotgun. Wouldn't a ballistic gel be more effective in retrieving the bullet?

Easier to see, yes. Because they did have a hard time finding the "heads" in the pool. ;D
But with gel, you have to mix it, wait to harden and stuff like that. Water would be much easier (need to add water to mix anyways). And can be used for doomsday scenario.
Looked like a HK415/556 at the end.
Cool job until you think about the reason why you're test firing the guns.

If you watched the video, you see they have ballistic vests along the outside for extra safety if a round penetrates the trough.
Rather than a plastic Homer bucket, you should look into a less penetrable container. You know, like the clearing chamber at HPD. If you hit the bottom or sides, it'd be bad if the container allowed the round to escape.

If you live forever.
Hawaii will destroy your guns before giving them back.
It will take you forever and a lot of cost to be a honest
person.
I do not violate any Federal, state, or local laws,
nor do I suggest you do so.
You all do what you think is best. The state of Hawaii
is not your friend.

I'm sure all the taxpayer money spent for that equipment and personnel is absolutely necessary for BATFE to assure the safety of the American public. You know, just like the gun running thing. /sarc >:(

The high school teacher in Monterey County, Calif., who accidentally fired a gun during a lecture on "public safety awareness" has publicly apologized for the classroom incident that injured three students.
Dennis Alexander, who also serves as mayor pro-tem of Seaside, made an impromptu speech Thursday at a regularly scheduled City Council meeting filled with hundreds of supporters.
"I want to apologize from the bottom of my heart," Alexander said in footage by local news outlet KSBW-TV. "I can't find the words to say how sorry I am."
Since the Tuesday afternoon event, the community has rallied around the teacher and Sand City reserve police officer.
"We are his family, and we are here to protect what is ours," said one student at the public comment session that, according to Seaside city clerk Lesley Milton-Rerig, lasted for two hours.
"There was such an outpouring of support," Milton-Rerig said. "The council chamber was filled with students and signs, inside and outside. There was nothing on the agenda that would have related to that in any way, but (Alexander) asked the mayor if he could comment."
Alexander, who has served on the council for eight years, thanked those who have stayed in his corner throughout the ordeal.
"It helps a lot. It gets me through the day," he said.
The Seaside High School website lists Anderson as an educator in the career and technical department responsible for introductory classes on fire and police, as well as public safety.
KSBW reported that Alexander fired his service revolver, a Glock 21 semiautomatic .45-caliber pistol.
When the gun went off, Anderson was "attempting to ensure a weapon was safe and free of any bullets" when he pointed it toward the ceiling and inadvertently fired a round, Seaside Police Chief Abdul Pridgen said Wednesday.
Officers were called to Seaside High School after the incident.
Three students, 16 and 17 years old, sustained minor injuries - cuts and scrapes

At minumum, that guy should lose his status as a reserve police officer.
I have kids that would make better firearms instructors than that dude.

All pistols are Glocks, even revolvers!
This guy, and Mr. "I'm the only person in this room qualified to handle this pistol -- BANG!!" are two examples of just dumb carelessness.
If you're going to give a demonstration, why on Earth would you even have live ammo where it might be accidentally chambered?? Bring some dummy rounds in separate mags, and LEAVE THE LIVE AMMO IN ANOTHER ROOM!
Unless you're going to do a live fire demonstration, common sense should tell you to clear the gun before starting and keep the live ammo away.

She's deadly to any insect including roaches, geckos, mice and centipedes. She will kill anything that makes it in the house. We recently had every seam and crack caulked before they painted the house and now nothing makes it inside. So now she's bored.
