I have a friend with kaiser wanting to apply for a permit. I was just wondering if anyone has gone lately to apply and if there were any problems with the kaiser insurance situation, or if those problems go sorted out.
-
has your friend ever seen a psychologist at Kaiser?
if not, then he probably has nothing to worry about
-
Recently bumped into someone who works at Kaiser.
Said something like "If you have a good relationship with your PCP" be sure to direct the HPD form to that specific DR or that Dr.'s OTHER place of business.
Many Dr.'s work at another clinic and or have their own office as well as work WITH Kaiser.
So I heard.

Switched from Kaiser to HMSA because of their no-assistance policy. Had the same PCP since birth, so might’ve had a shot if I had asked first...oh well
-
Kaiser doctors don't even see the letter from HPD
it is not a doctor's decision that gets you red flagged, it is HPD's decision to red flag you

This is just a general remark
I'm covered by VA, service connected. Every VA
guy has to be interviewed by a Psychiatrist .
They initially think we are all nuts or suicidal
so that is strike 1.
My VA doctor is a ex-Kaiser emergency room guy.
I see him once per year as I'm fairly healthy, other than
a slight disability.
He said VA and Kaiser(when he worked there)
will not allow him to certify my sanity on paper.
in order to buy a gun.
That is strike two.
This is how they will do gun confiscation.
Hawaii knows you have guns because you
register all your guns
and they know you cannot get a doctor to say
you are normal and healthy.
Strike three.
You are OUT!
Aloha.

I got my long gun and handgun permits back in September. No issues as normal. Always had Kaiser for my HMO since they came to Hawaii.
I have a feeling HPD is much more hard-core about mental health clearances since you guys in Oahu have the propensity to go off the deep end. Ha! Just joking! 🤣

When I renewed my long gun statist BS, over a year ago, before the defeat of the beast, no new inquiry about docktahs. Just "no changes?" and a new permit within a week.
Before the B.I. started any rapshit stuff, and it will be it for me for a long time.
-
Rap Back law seems like a deal breaker for a few vocal forum members here. I know it's a bum law but I still want to acquire guns and be complient.

Just applied and picked up permit and weapon last week. I have kaiser but i have had the same doc since I left the pediatrician. 38 now.
-
I've registered for two rifle permits with Kaiser so far with no problem. I haven't seen a psychiatrist or diagnosed with a mental disorder. My son has autism so pretty sure he's out.
-
I recently got flagged but was ok 3 yrs ago. Anybody know a psych that I can call to clear me?

My nephew has Kaiser and applied for his rifle permit in Dec. HPD kicked his app back. He ended up going through Dr. Thomas Cook, 808-457-1082. But heads up, da bugga charges $300

Applied for pistol and long gun permits yesterday. There was an additional form specific to Kaiser that the officer gave me to fill out.

That form is illegal.

That form is illegal.
what does the form say?
-
what does the form say?
I have no idea, but they can only use forms prescribed by the AG and thats not one of them.
-
It is a medical release form specific to Kaiser.
-
Yes, handgun permit a few weeks ago. If anything, I'd guess if you ever went to a kaiser facility and saw or was officially recommended to see anyone related to mental health you got flagged.
I'm someone who's generally pretty friendly and talks story with the general practictioner doctor and nurses. But in hindsight that is NOT smart to do. You could be talking about anything, but if raises a flag with them, they might refer you to a psychologist or a therapist. Example: He's talking with you about your health, how many times you drink in a month. You chill out with friends, drink a 6 pack beer a few times a week, guess what? You're a binge drinker. Are you depressed or have another mental disorder? "let's be safe and set up a meeting with one of our mental health doctors". Etc etc.
