Title: boar hunting Oahu with rifle - anyone do it?

Any of you guys hunt boar on oahu with rifle?  If so, what general areas are good?  Ideally central to east oahu.  Public hunting land.

Central to east Oahu hunting areas would be.
Kuaokala
Poamoho
Pupukea
Haulua I think
Kahana

Lots of guys poach the in betweens, especially the guys that run dogs.

I would go Poamoho or Kahana.
Both are big mountains and you can walk for days

I know hikers use some of the hunting area trails.  I guess ideally would be somewhere with a fair amount of game, can avoid the hikers, and the hunters with dogs.  I hunted pig before, but not on oahu, which tend to have a lot more people around so kinda hesitant.

Thanks for the tips, probably will try scout the areas you mentioned first.

You have to get far off the trails. Too many hikers for travel sites. Pali by the golf course, kappa quarry they hunt with guns I believe. Just keep asking around & scout areas.

I go every Friday.  Private Land. Soon to end cause area is being sold.  :(

I don't think pali golf course is a game management area, or kapaa quarry area.

Best bet would be to go down to the state building and pick up a hunters packet.  It goes over all the regulations and hunting areas.

Pigs are smart creatures and know where the hunting areas are.
Often you can see them on or near the hiking trails,  or near the "no shooting" signs.  When you spend your whole life trying not to get killed you learn how to survive.
