Interesting article from Gabe Saurez with an awesome quote from Nietzsche.
“...I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws.”

Jordan Peterson said something similar about being virtuous in one of his lectures... basically it was that a wolf or lion that shows restraint is like a strong man who is capable of violence, but shows discretion-- rabbits aren't virtuous because they don't harm others, they're useless and pretty much at the bottom of the food chain because they don't have a choice. Those leftist liberals who don't have the backbone to protect their own family will hide behind virtue by saying "I'll never allow a gun in my house" or some such BS.

A similar quote from a Chinese proverb.
There is a wonderful story in the Chinese martial arts about “The Peaceful Warrior”, in which a young apprentice, while training in the use of the Chinese sword, asked his teacher why, if he was striving to be inwardly calm and at peace, he needed to learn the ways of a warrior. “Would it not be more tranquil and serene to be a gardener and tend the plants?” he asked. “Tending the garden,” the master replied, “is a relaxing pastime, but it does not prepare one for the inevitable battles of life. It is easy to be calm in a serene setting. To be calm and serene when under attack is much more difficult; therefore, I tell you that it is far better to be a warrior tending his garden rather than a gardener at war.”

Like the other article that I posted from Suarez, good food for thought. Like many things in life, things taken to the extreme (in any direction) will usually get you in trouble. I do see many of his points, particularly about importance of situational awareness.
A similar quote from a Chinese proverb.

I like that quote and that is a big part of why I train, both in self defense and firearms. First thing though is that I enjoy both shooting and self defense training. Self defense training is excellent exercise, allows me to clear my mind after work, and enjoy company of like minded folks. Shooting is very similar for me, except the exercise part. Haha. The training part is also important in a "better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it" line of thinking.
