A firearm useless without mostly unobtainable belted ammo?
Grenades useless without a launcher?
Figger i could ghetto-rig the grenades.................but why bother?

Hopefully they don't lose another ICBM again.

7.62x51 links are readily available surplus and yes you could easily cobble together a crude 40mm launcher.

The grenades could be used as small bombs or put together as one decent sized one. I had to dispose of a "few" 40mm grenades before.

Back in the day, at Ft. Riley "by the sea", my buddy and I came across two 240's propped up against the wall next to the community center on Custer hill. Definitely did a double take but they were there, two M240's, plain as day. I kept watch while my buddy went in to call the MP's. Didn't take long before they figured out both had fallen out of a Deuce someone neglected to close the tailgate on, returning from the motor pool. Thankfully someone found them on the road, didn't keep them, but instead placed them where they could be found quickly. Another big "thankfully", they weren't from our battalion or brigade! It's important to point out these were both old school M240's, the type we mounted coaxially with the main-gun & at the loaders station, not 240B's (which weren't in the inventory yet). Not sure if parts were available to convert them to an FN MAG, but certainly a crisis averted type moment. Needless to say, heads rolled in the other brigade...
