I have heard that Oreilly (checker auto) will scan your vehicle for free. It might be worth a try.

I don't have a scanner, but I've seen them on eBay for cheap...

What are the symptoms?

Or do you just want to check it before an emissions test or something?

Not any more. They used to when they were checkers, but now that they are Oreilly, they do not.

They will sell you one....

I have an OBDII tool, but the 92 Ranger needs an OBD 1.

If you're handy and can narrow down the problem, you can simply repair it and reset the EEC by disconnecting the battery. If you don't know where to start and need to scan...

Try talking to the counter guys at your local auto parts store. If you're a frequent customer, they'll help you get what you need even if that means scanning your vehicle for you. It doesn't hurt to ask. Or take your truck to a shop and get an estimate for repair. Ask them to put everything that needs to be done in writing...then you'll know what's wrong.

O'reilly "rents" them out. The one in Mililani will take the time to scan it for you if you bring your vehicle and buy parts from them.
