Since I can't bring my real Colt Thompson here, I've been thinking of picking up one of these. It's a pure toy I know, but a very fun one. Shooting full auto is 99% just about making noise anyways. At $2500, its a hell of lot cheaper than a real full auto too, and since it's not a firearm according to the BATFE, I'm assuming that it is legal in Hawaii.
The guy has been developing it for years, and he has done an awesome job. It's looks 100% like an original, however it is made from the ground up to not accept real ammo, and even the way he made the receiver makes it pretty much impossible to even machine it and modify to accept real M1A1 Thompson parts. It even has to use his specialty made blank ammo for it that is not even a 45ACP case. Like I said, the BATFE says that this is NOT a firearm.
What do you guys think about it's legality here?

Sounds legit from what you describe. Hawaii Historic Arms would get a kick out of that.

By Hawaii law, not a firearm. So legal.
Ammo however is a bitch because you can’t just mail it here

Depending on the cost of the blanks, might be cheaper to than the money I burn on fireworks every New Years. ;D

Thanks for the reply everyone!
It's $2500. Not cheap for a toy, but who cares. A real Thompson is minimum $25,000 now, so with this you get the fun part for 1/10th the price, and it's great display piece that you can actually use and have fun with then. The craftsmanship of it is also spot on with the real ones, so that's pretty dang cool.
The guy makes the proprietary ammo for this himself. Mass produces it and sells it for $0.50/round. Again, not cheap, but not bad too. I can just fly with the ammo over here, so that's no big deal, I'm seriously tempted. I could go out and do mag dumps with my friends all in good fun.
Very glad to hear this is legal here!

I got to fire a full auto Tommy gun in Vegas years ago. It was fun. First mag (20rds) no problem. Gone in about a second. 2nd mag, had stove pipes every 4 rounds. So was more like firing in burst. Range was cool. They refunded me the 2nd mag.

Yep. They are super cool guns. I love my Colt.

Just an update. I ordered one of the blank guns and 1000 rounds of ammo. I'm flying with the rounds back with me to Kauai in a couple months, then I'll be able to do mag dumps in the valley behind my house. Looking forward to giving the "full auto smile" to people on this island as well now for a whole lot less money! :shaka:
