Title: Big Island Officer Fatally Shot
Post by: hvybarrels on July 18, 2018, 10:55:38 AM
Very sad day. Can't imagine what his wife and kids must be going through. Much love to all the honest hard working officers out there and thanks for the risks they take to get these guys locked up where they belong.

The perp had a long rap sheet but was still running around loose.

The last time this criminal was in court because of a  parole violation, prosecutors asked for bail to be set at $20k, still very low for a flight risk.  The liberal judge said that was too high and set bail at $7k.  A few months later this piece of garbage kills a cop.  The evening news mentioned the judge's name, but I forgot who it was.

We should institute capital punishment.

I saw a bumper sticker on a toolbox that belonged to a retired judge....

"SOFT JUDGES MAKE HARD CRIMINALS"

I thought it was funny. ...Not so funny any more.

Saw an interview on the news with a mountain view resident. Said police knocked on their door soon after the shooting and asked them if they had firearms in the house bc shooter is loose in the area. They do recognize the value of being armed.
But person interviewed said they don't own firearms.

This story and that one about the LV Metro PD encounter.  Guys with long records and not petty stuff.  I think the roles judges have in these matters don't get as much exposure or scrutiny as I think they should.  #whojudgesthejudges

If he fled into the woods, yeah, I could see area residents at threat for the guy breaking into a home in the area.  From what I know of that area, the are pretty large gaps between residential areas and the brush/woods in that area is pretty nasty.

Does that family have firearms in the house?  If not, have them come out shooting next time they visit Oahu.

And hope they catch the guy.  In general, but also so that your family can rest a bit easier.

Should've known. . .  :worship:

But had to ask.  Many of my family on my dad's side own firearms, but I don't think many shoot.  I tend to concentrate on getting friends to shoot, but I really should be dedicating more time to taking family.  Many of them have interest.  I've taken my sister and her husband and they enjoy it, but they haven't expressed an interest in ownership.   :(

Judges should be held accountable if bail is set and the person commits another crime.  This way they make sure either the person is denied bail, or a amount that fits the crime.

I feel bad for the family left behind.
I'm on the big island and to be truthful, with the exception
of  extreme Domestic violence I would never call our Cops.
I refuse to talk to Cops unless I'm forced to.
"Do you have guns in the house" is about the stupidest question
they could ask. Supposedly all legal guns are registered,  they
know who has them,  so at some point they can confiscate them, when
the politics are right. if you have guns, not registered you aren't going
to tell them you have  them. DUH!
This is a BIG island. We have some very rural areas, where Cops never go and
strangers aren't welcome. Probably is where this killer is now.

This perp cannot last more than a few days without help.  If someone is providing food and shelter and he never goes out in public, it could be years before he is found, but he has to have help.  Right now everybody knows what he looks like and the $21k reward money is something a lot of people want to collect, myself included.

I am at a friend's place right off the main highway just below Kukui Camp Rd where the shooting took place.  More cop cars just passed by, siren and flashing lights, headed up the hill right now.

Hoguh we disagree on the president - fist bump on this one Ren.  I’d hook this guy up to h-power and auction off the privilege to throw the switch with the proceeds going to the fallen officer’s family.  Once we’re done, we just discard him with the rest of the trash.

So if HPD came to your home due to a similar incident.  And they "requested" surrendering of firearms.  Can they?  I know there is the natural disaster law that prevents them from doing this.  I printed out a copy to show any PD.  Because if there is a ND, most likely, there will be no power to use the computer to show them via capitol website.

But again, in the end even if they confiscate illegally, I'm not going to go against PD because I would lose.  Can't do a Bundy situation here.  Just got to court later and hire Michael Green.

That's they way I took it.

However, made me think back to when that elephant Tyke got loose.  The story I heard was someone brought down a larger caliber rifle (I HATE the term high powered rifle) and that was used to stop Tyke.  Something about HPD's issued firearms wasn't enough for the large elephant.

Kinda random, but that's what came to mind.     ;D

About 0900  today 07/20/18,  HPD put  up road blocks on Highway 19 not too far from my place.
Honokaa - Paullio area.  Guy is definitely on the move. and may now be on foot.  Local dogs
were carrying on pretty good,  much more than usual.  I have five dogs plus an attack mule.
Anybody comes around I'll know about it.

I think the mule in this pic fought off and killed the mountain lion.

But seriously, hope they get this guy and no more innocents or officers hurt.

This would be the only time that phrase would be acceptable.  I was at the circus the night before.  I was about 9 or something.  But I remember HPD not having powerful enough guns, so they had to ask local hunters for help.

Guy with 50 cal: All my friends called me crazy for spending so much on a gun that's useless in Hawaii.  Here hold my beer.

* No 50 was used, just a joke.

That is the word I just got.  South Point shoot-out.
The only good thing to come out of this is probably
nobody got a speeding ticket today.  I don't like cops,
but exterminating them is not the way to deal with them.

I bought "Taz" about a year ago.  He does not have a pleasant disposition as I belatedly
found out.
He is ~4 years old and if you don't belong  in "his" paddock  you will have a problem.
He is barely under control, but we are working with him.  I've only been kicked once but
he wasn't serious about it.  If he was, he  is #1000 of kickass non-stoppable fear.
He is as big as a run of the mill horse.

Quote
Police said the shootout happened about 2:45 p.m. Friday, when officers stopped a Toyota 4Runner at a South Point checkpoint, which had been set up after police got a tip that Waiki was in the area.

Hawaii Police Department Maj. Robert Wagner told Hawaii News Now that there were five people in the SUV: A male driver, three women and Waiki.

But Waiki was "hidden in the very back of the 4Runner, underneath a blanket," Wagner said.

"The officer checked the very back area of that vehicle, opened up that hatch there, and then Waiki actually emerged and shot the officer," Wagner said. "The members of the SRT unit exchanged fire, killing Waiki at that location."

He added that one of the women in the SUV was also shot. The three others in the vehicle were arrested on hindering prosecution charges and were taken to the Kona police station.

The wounded officer has been with the Hawaii Police Department for 12 years. Wagner said he's a patrol sergeant in Puna, but also a member of the Special Response Team.

Sounds like a scene from a movie.

Reports said officer shot is stable and just heard on the news the Big Island Mayor announced “officer will be OK”.

Hope those that helped Waiki get theirs...

Wait! What?
Was this clown not convicted of multiple felonies? One of them a firearm offense AFTER his first felony conviction?
Why was He even on the street????
Had the laws in place been enforced, one Officer would still be alive and another not wounded.
Whatever happened to the "Felon in Possession" charges that would have prevented all of this?
We don't need new laws, only to enforce the ones in place!
There is nothing, repeat nothing wrong here in Hawaii that can be blamed on the Republicans/Conservatives.
The Dems own it all. When will people wake up and get off the Plantation???
Oh, one thing more. All the latest new gun laws are sold as "Keeping Guns out of the Wrong hands"
How's that working out for you??
Aloha, I think

Ren,

You have to sit down and think.  Stupid laws passed by stupid people.  This state is full of them.
Best bet is to figure out how to protect yourself from them.  I worry about the Government and criminals equally.
They both represent the biggest threat to my health, safety, and welfare that I face daily.

Three facing charges for hindering prosecution. One of them was shot in the leg and had a broken femur. That’s gonna be pretty lasting form of punishment.  Hope those that helped Waiki get theirs. Not holding my breath, but still...
