Title: 22 SK Red Box
Post by: changemyoil66 on August 31, 2018, 09:00:35 AM
Does anyone know where they sell these at?  My rifle likes them and the friend who gave me some rounds did a bulk order.

So I don't have to call every gun store on the island.

Don't want to buy a case, but a few boxes for a friendly competition.

I assume you mean SK Rifle Match? If so, the last place I saw it (sorry but a long time ago) was Prime Sports.

This is probably some of the best ammo I have tried in all my rifles so far. As good as the Eley Tenex I have tried. And Eley Target is almost as good.

LMK if you find some for sale. Same friendly competition?

Good point. Also, friendly competitions are supposed to be just that, friendly. This is what is going to keep this competition going over the long haul.

I won’t be able to compete in the first one, but I’ll be in for the second one. Good luck all. And above all have fun.

I didn't do as well as I hoped.  Fat goose egg for me (0).

But it was weird, the 1st 25rds of the SK shot like how it did before.  But after that, it started to open up a lot.  So I figured, maybe dirty barrel.  So I ran my CCI SV through her and it shot like how it's supposed to.  I did forget about the wind, so maybe rounds 25-50 it was windier than normal?  So I used my CCI for the challenge.

Don’t feel bad. You won’t be the first nor the last with a goose egg. Experience is the best teacher. As you shoot that target with the same gun you will get a feel for when you should stop. Believe me, you probably did better than you think. I intend to print a bunch of the targets to get a feel for how far I can get with my equipment. My equipment is well used and not that great so I suspect I can get only so far on that target.

As far as the SK shooting differently, i could be the wind. When you are in the zone you can block out other things. It could be the ammo. I have one rifle that is very picky about how I hold it even on the bench. I can change the POI just by applying different pressures in different directions on the stock. So consistency is the key.

My suggestion is to practice a lot with the CCI SV and shoot the match with the SK after verifying POI.

Trying to get some of this also.

Thanks for the input guys.  still debating if I want to jump down the rabbit hole. My purpose for the 22 was it's cheaper to shoot than anything else.  Problem is, I hang with tac driver kind of guys so I gotta have some good ammo to keep up with them.

My rifle likes GECO Match (red box) runs good and is slightly cheaper.  But overall doesn't shoot that much better than CCI SV considering the price difference.

The wife is planning her build as we speak.  She was looking at a cheap 10/22 in Vegas, but I told her it's not a tac driver.  She's now looking into KIDD parts, but doesn't like the Magpul stock it comes with.  She might also go with a Brownells receiver to save a few bucks.

You're already in the rabbit hole...you just haven't realized it yet.

Mrs. Change should take a look at the Kidd Barreled Actions and use the stock/chassis of her choice. Of course in Lavender.  :shaka: :shaka: :shaka: Brownells receivers are way better than the new Ruger receivers being put out so I've heard. QC is apparently not what it was BITD.

There is a saying "There is nothing cheap about precision shooting". Everybody learns it sooner or later. Some sooner than others. esk808 will give you a tour of his collection that will may your financial adviser commit suicide.

Might take a seat on the 22 to the back.  The wife found  that Midstate firearms now offers "oil slick" AR parts.  Upper, lower, barrel, handguard, buffer tube.  She currently has the oil slick BCG in her AR.  So she might want to build another.  I knew about the new products, but kept my mouth shut because I knew what would happen if she saw them.

But if she builds another AR, I'm gonna need another one also . Can't be having the wife has more AR's than the husband. =P

"oil slick" AR parts?  "crazy rainbow galaxy cosmic psychedelic purple haze oil slick multi color eye-catching finish"

Seems purely cosmetic.  If it keeps the wifey interested, then   But seems like a lot of $$$ for a cosmetic finish.  I don't see many of those parts being really noticeable.  But again, if happy wife = more guns for husband, then right on!

Spend around $1800 on her current AR with the Stingrey Guncandy Cerakote.  It's not even a Noveske or DD.

But like you said happy wife=more guns for husband.

And maybe since she will have 2 AR's now she can pay for ammo.

Holy shitballs!  $1800 on just the gun?  Or including optic and other stuff?

$1800 is about 4-5 cases of ammo, so she can look forward to a new "oil slick" barrel for her first AR when she shoots the barrel out.    ;D

Met a guy who told me everytime he buys a new gun, he has to buy his wife a new bag.  Like LV, Channel, etc...So a $1500 gun cost him $4K+ right off the bat.

Wolf was produced by Lapua as is SK. Wolf in now produced by Eley. In my small testing, it is just as good.

Interesting.  I've heard (old lots) all the same, just different levels of sorting, and of course, price.

Being that both SK and Wolf were made at Lapua's factory, it has been said the Wolf Match Target was the same as SK Standard Plus (Yellow). Wolf Match Extra was supposedly the same as SK Rifle Match (Red). I can not confirm that but it has been reported by some very reputable people. Although they both were produced at Lapua, they were not produced on the same line/machines that the Lapua brands were on. Lapua's lot numbers show the exact velocity of the lot in meters per second as well as other information such as the line/machine that it was produced on. I'm not certain if the same can be said about the Wolf and/or SK line.

Let me know when you can shoot. I will tell my friend and you can see what a properly built AR 22lr dedicated upper can do. His recent build will blow your mind. He has at least 2 others. Warning: it is not cheap by any stretch of the word. YOLO

I got to shoot all my rubbish 22 ammo this weekend.  Rubbish as in all the various brands I bought to see which type my gun liked.

It bothers me to have so much variety.  I'm trying to only keep CCI SV and GECO Match in my 22 stash.

But the RWS shot good to (thanks Bushido), just a little to expensive.

I was shooting steel and getting hits on the 6 inch gong at 100.  Good enough for rubbish ammo and no rear bag.

Do it!! What is most needed is guys willing to come out and shoot, not "watch". Nothing will ever get started without that.
