Title: Fixed magnification prism sight options
Post by: mangosteenqueen on September 05, 2018, 08:08:34 PM
Looking for some kind of fixed magnification 3x or 4x prism sight, or “poor man’s acog” and then add some kind of micro red dot on the 12 o’clock.
Currently own a primary arms 2.5x prism sight but I’ve started getting a little tired of how cluttered the ACSS reticle is (at least with the 556/308 reticle) and Ive always had a rather unhappy but manageable relationship with horseshoe type reticles.

Would like opinions or personal experiences with the following, and perhaps bring up other options for prismatic scopes.
So far I’ve considered in:
Atibal MROC (if it comes back in stock anytime soon)
Steiner M332

Or I can:
Suck it up and buy a primary arms 3x
Break the bank and college savings for a acog

What is your goal?

I used an ACOG with a Doc Optic top mounted and it was far from an ideal set up.  A variable 1-4 or 1-6, or a red dot/magnifier combo in that order is my preference.

Generally a setup where I don’t have to mechanically adjust anything.
I don’t entirely need a piggyback red dot since I can work with a 3x up close, but I’d like to play with that setup since I use a chinweld/semi chinweld because of my helmet mounted earmuffs. I even have a macedon KRAM 7.0 riser on my 2.5x sight to accommodate my helmet and earpro getting in the way.
I own a PA 1-6x and not entirely liking it.

Burris often runs promotions where you can receive a free FastFire 3 if you purchase one of their AR prism sights.  the Burris promo was active for the past several year, but it doesn't appear to be active currently.  i wouldn't be surprised if they run it again for 2018.  i know the Burris isn't on your list, but i think it is worth mentioning since it perfectly fits your preference for fixed mag prism and red dot combo.

I suppose. You’re not the only person who recommended it especially on other social platforms

i've never used a burris.  i primarily use an ACOG 4x TA31 RCO.  i like it a lot, but i sometimes think about the amount of optics that i could have purchased with the cost of the ACOG.  the eye relief on the ACOG really sucks, but that's my only major complaint.

Burris also offers a 50% discount off of MSRP for NRA instructors.

Yeah that’s one of the main issues that keeps me from getting a TA31, aside from the price.
I found a Steiner M332 for just a little over $400 on eBay, most likely gonna snag it if I don’t hear any other recommendations

The PA 3x I had was decent, but I didn't like the fix power for up close. The ACSS reticle was good also, but again I didn't like being at 3x upclose.
