Title: Hawaii Firearms Coalition

Please take a look at the new group a few of us founded, the HAWAII FIREARMS COALITION. It's a non-profit 501c4 group dedicated to lobbying for gun rights in Hawaii, grassroots activism, and judicial action.

We have recently funded an amicus brief (research paper written by an attorney) to support the Young v Hawaii case for open carry in Hawaii. We have many things planned for the future to educate and rally the firearms community. This isn't an organization you pay to join and sit back. YOU are responsible for taking action as a member to protect gun rights.

We'll have classes to help improve activism, support those that want leading gun rights projects, rallys, lobbying legislators, and other projects.  We seek to help the many facets of the gun community - self defense, hunting, range development, shooting sports, etc.

Visit us at the HHAA Great Guns show this weekend, we're by the cowboys in the back. Blaisdell Center, Sept 29-30 10am to 5pm.

Apply for memberships at:

A donor from the Hawaii Firearms Coalition is matching donations to the Friends of the NRA during the gun show weekend, up to $5,000 in total for the weekend.

Please stop by the FNRA table, the kids with buckets, and make a donation.  The money supports the junior air rifle teams in Hawaii who are the next generation of gun owners.

As a new organization I'm sure you folks have a lot on your plate.  Maybe down the road you can consider if it's worthwhile to become a CMP affiliated organization.  This might help in attracting new members.

We'll look at affiliations early next year and see which ones best match our organization.  CMP is a shooting organization, not lobbying or activism related so may not be a good fit for our organization.  We'll take a look at it when the time comes.

Is there another way to pay besides Square since they are anti-gun now and just cut off all the gun dealers using them?  I'd rather they not get their cut.

Also, Is there an option for no T shirt?  I'd just like the full payment to go to fund you guys.

Thanks for getting this up and going

With online processors pretty much all of them are owned by anti gun groups. The reason we chose to use square was done based on fees and ease of use for customers.

If you don’t want a t-shirt but still any that level of membership just put it in the notes when you pay

For something else down the line, consider adding the charity to Amazon smile to get donations
https://org.amazon.com/

Not sure what the requirements are but Oregon Firearms Federation has generated a $3-4000 in donations that way.

I don't know if they really get money But I set GOA as mine.
for Amazon.
I will contact and see If I can switch to Hawaii firearms coalition.
I prefer to use paypal for online orders.
There is a way to bypass their anti-gun BS.
Direct pay. to an individual, you still get all the protections.
I have a 26.5 mm signal device and flares all paid through
paypal. You guys here would know that is a flare gun.
Work paypal into the website and  you have a new outer island member.
I've had too many problems with Hawaiian purchases
that I had to cancel cards. That is usually a pain.
Never lost any money yet, but the hassle, is irritating.

We'll take a look at the Amazon donations and others a bit later.  Still focusing on getting basic organization functions up and a solid membership base right now.

The right to bear arms does NOT stop within your home.

We have hired a lawyer to submit an amicus brief (a legal argument) against rehearing Young and to let the 3 judge panel's decision stand, Thus affirming the right to bear arms outside of the home.

I (one of the directors) also have a lawsuit against the state right now in the Federal court system that would legalize the possession of tasers and allow them to be carried outside of the home.

So we are PRO open carry.

Welcome to the club!  We need all the help we can get.  One of our extended long term goals is to get 5,000 testimonies within 48 hours on a big bill.  We got 500 in 3 weeks for the bump stocks, so we need 10x that in 1/10th the time.

Good goal. The unfortunate thing, for the foreseeable future anyway, is that you will only be attempting to get testimonies AGAINST "big bills" that attempt to further erode and steal the lawful exercise of our rights, because the bills that would restore the lawful exercise of our rights are never even given committee hearings for which testimony can be submitted. That will require a wholesale transformation of the Hawaii legislature (eliminate the Democrat/RINO supermajority). But we gotta start where we are. I applaud your efforts.

True, but like you mentioned we need to start somewhere.  The sad part is for the bump stock bill, we had less than 500 testimonies.  500 out of thousands of gun owners out there.  Maybe if we had 5,000+ then it may have given them a 2nd thought.  Not really though, our law makers had already made up their minds.

Hopefully HIFICO will help gun owners change their attitudes.  I even talked to a NRA instructor about the bump stock bill and he didn't submit any testimony.  He had the defeated attitude.

I prefer the handwritten petition and dont like the online ones..  Gets people out and gets the community working together.  Can talk to people to get their input and build awareness.  You dont get that with an online petition.

I tried change.org with the koko Head improvement petition.  It leads to bad habbits and laziness, by the organizors and signers.  Its a tool and has its place, just not now.

A pdf online version hosted on google drive would be sufficient too.  Then you can just post/email them the link, people can fill it out (by hand if that's what you want) and snail mail or email a scanned copy to you.

I do get what you're saying about getting people to be more active though.  just a suggestion.

Just went to HFR and signed, but left my address blank.  If you need it I can PM you.  That place has high foot traffic from non-gun owners (range rentals) and I didn't feel ok with my address on paper.

But now that I see you're at Prime, I would feel fine with putting my addy at a gun store.

This isnt a legal petition so address is optional in this case.  I lookup your legislative district and write it down for the reps to see.  Looks more professional and sometimes the reps will contact constituants to talk.

I figure anyone can lookup anyone's address on the internet nowadays and China already has everyones personal info anyways.

No worries, 4 more weekends to go.  Range has been a bit emptier than usual lately.  Wonder if its a seasonal thing.  Was less than half full in the morning.

About a quarter way to the 2,000 signature goal.  May be possible with the gun stores and clubs helping out now.

Visiting Hilo this week to see the gun stores and making connections.

I went to the Mile Marker 16 (Morita Camp) Range on Saddle Road.  From Hilo travel west on Saddle Road for about 25 minutes until you see the green Mile 16 sign then go about 100 yards past and turn right onto a dirt road.  You should have a truck or SUV because it's crushed lava rocks and cinder with bumps and ruts.  You need a Hawaii hunting license and bring your own targets/frames out because there's none there.  There are two bays about 50 yards long.  It's a clearing in the Ohia forest with lava rock.  One bay has a cinder backstop, the other doesnt.

I met with Ryan Kohatsu who is a member of the State Game Management Advisory Committee(GMAC) committee and Kean who is with the county GMAC. They are a new committee formed by the legislature and appointed by the Governor to work with the DLNR to represent hunting interests.  Their main problem is the erradication of game animals on the island.  DLNR is performing aerial hunting of goats, sheep, and pigs to eradicate them, leaving the carcass to rot for the sake of environmentalism.  This leaves nothing for hunters to hunt.  Ryan says hunters and environmentalists can work together to identify areas of land where eradication is needed to protect endangered species and the environment while preserving hunting lands where there is no threat.  He is also working to promote building a public range by Pohakuloa and improving the existing Mile Marker 16 range.  Ryan needs the help of all hunters and firearms enthusiest in the State to help with these issues.
