Title: Termite Treatment Recommendation
Post by: oldfart on October 02, 2018, 09:58:14 AM
I am not pleased with my current service.
Looking for recommendations.
Especially if you have more than 5 or 10 years experience with that company.

I just had my house tented by Kama'aina.  Considering the size of the house,  I thought the price was reasonable.  The estimator was easy to talk to and very professional--answered all my questions, returned calls and he dropped off extra bags for the foods and stuff I had to seal.  I found out that they're the subcontractor for other termite companies.  I'm satisfied with their work.

I read someplace that Sandwich Isle pest is a sub for Terminex.

I have used Terminix for the last 5 years. My house is fairly new and constructed mostly of metal studs (except for roof area). Since I have started with them I have had 5 or 6 centipedes, 3 or 4 roaches and 2 mice in the 5 years. I had an ant problem and hornet/wasp problem when I started with them. Have not had that problem since I started.

The things I don’t like about them is they charge similarly as the other companies but only come out every 3 months. But will come out as many times as necessary if you call them. So every time I find something in my house I called them and they came back out and sprayed. They are a mainland company with an office here. They will call/text/email before they come out. Why they started calling I will never know. Called me on a Sunday to let me know they would be out Monday morning. Kind of annoying.

I still have to spray a couple of small areas that they cannot access if I am not home to let them spray. But that’s not on them. Overall I am happy because I find dead stuff around my house all the time. Just sweep ‘em up. It just kills me to pay them the same as the other companies when they come out only one third of the time.

I've got an Ant and Roach problem in my condo.  I keep the kitchen clean but they seem to be coming from surrounding condos and have set up shop in my kitchen.  I've got an 8 month old and I live in the Pearl City area, any recommendations?

What are the services do you have currently? Do you have current termite activity? If so Drywood or Ground Termites?

You need to identify the roaches you have to address the problem. Most of the inside roaches, kitchen and bath are a combination of brown banded and german roaches. a combination of baiting and spraying usually works the best. Most importantly READ and UNDERSTAND the label.

No ground termites.  Starting to get dry wood though.  Looking to tent pretty soon.

Getting them where? In furniture, cabinets, or various areas of the home?

Well if it is just things that are not part/attached to the home you can always fumigate it in your driveway, if or carport if it is not connected to the home. Is the door solid core or hollow core?

I have a little over half gallon of Chlordane.  Highly effective for ground termite treatment.

If they are in my house then I think it would be best to gas the entire house.  Most of my neighbors did theirs in the last few years. The bugs just moved to my house.

Baiting and spraying roaches that DON'T ORIGINATE FROM MY CONDO isn't going stop them from coming.  READ and UNDERSTAND my post before you reply.

Yes, you can't stop them from coming in from your neighbors.
That's why the easiest solution is baiting and spraying.
The better solution involves baiting and spraying every apartment.
Of course, that involves the condo association. IIRC when I lived in a condo, that is what happened.
Every apartment had a guy come in to spray. Does the building have an owners association?

Then talk to your association if you are an owner, or talk to your landlord if you are just a tenant. It's true, being connected to other units do not help. sealing off entry points around plumbing and electrical can help.
Ask for reading and understanding the label, most folks don't follow the instructions, either applying too much or buying something that won't help with the specific issue. If you really want good results, clean out all your drawers and cabinet's in the kitchen and bath, seal what you can with either plumbers putty or expandable foam, bait all the nooks and crannies, then use a residual spray followed by an aerosol flushing agent. If you are having roach issues in rooms other than the kitchen and bath then you probably have a bigger issue then you think. Most labels will read safe when dry. Should you have concerns you can always download the MSDS and present that to your to Dr.
