The Army has been working on a new bullet that is bigger, bolder and harder hitting that will help make U.S. soldiers even more unstoppable.
When you combine this new generation of bullet with the new generation of weapons for soldiers – then they will be able to shoot farther – with accuracy – than any known military rifle on earth.
There’s been a lot of mystery, buzz and speculation about this new generation of bullets. The specifics are classified and limited to the companies selected to produce prototypes.
But there are some key details we can share. Here’s what you should know about the Army’s goals for this new generation of 6.8 mm rounds.

Not really new information, but always interesting and good to see willingness to try something newer for better performance.

All for show. They got so much 556, that it wouldn't make sense to produce and buy that much 6.8.

Well, considering both 6.5 Creedmoor (and 6.8 SPC to a lesser extent) are already in use, I don't think that's that far a stretch. Understand that that may be difficult to fathom when one might not be able to confirm via a Google search. . .

They should go 6.5 creedmoor to replace .308 and 6.5 grendel to replace 5.56...

A buddy built a 6.5 Grendel upper and is testing some different boolits and powder combinations. Seems like he’s getting some pretty solid results. He might look to try seeing if he can do some hunting with it (on some private family land).
Or get one of these. ;D

Yeahssir . doing the same with a grendel. So far, real happy. Just test fired with some AE rounds and looks like it may be a real accurate rifle. going to do a load work up and see what happens next. Working on a post about it, and will post on load development.

Just hope they don't screw up after testing. Going from ball powder to stick powder (M-16 reference)

I think he’s testing Prvii and Hornady SST with I think Hogdon powder.
Looking forward to seeing how your progress goes.
I’ve been thinking of putting together a 5.56/.223 upper for more precision shooting. Maybe a 1-6 or 1-8.
